🚀 Exciting times at the kickoff meeting of our ERASMUS+ funded project, Dis4Food! 🌐🍽️ Thrilled to represent the The European Federation of the Associations of Dietitians (EFAD) alongside brilliant minds from the Laboratory of Food Chemistry & Analysis at the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA). Our mission? To place dietitians at the forefront of digital disruption in diet and food. Dis4Food aims to design an interactive training curriculum to elevate dietitians' digital skills, focusing on food data literacy. We're diving deep into food composition databases, data quality standards, and the EU food data ecosystems. Our goal is to boost the confidence and proficiency of dietitians in utilizing digital tools and open-access resources, with a special emphasis on reaching those in remote areas. 👏 Today we are happy to welcome Giovanni Fiorile to the team, an Italian Food Technologist. 👉 His study started with a degree in Food Technology, now he is finishing his PhD in Food Science and Sensory Analysis at the University of Naples Federico II. During his academic experience, he presented his research results in different international conferences. He collaborated with NOFIMA research centre in Norway, and with #foodcompanies, especially those connected to fish and seafood sector. The main aim of Giovanni’s research is focused on food formulation or improving food products through sensory analysis and consumer science, and to study the relationship between external context and food related information on consumers' acceptance and liking. Giovanni developed experience in #marketresearch, #consumerscience, #descriptive and #discriminating #sensoryanalysis. 

🔍 Today we are presenting FEASTS partner EHU – University of the Basque Country. The collaborative and trans-disciplinary team of 15 members from Spanish and US universities has experience in competitive call projects and publications that address ethical-legal and governance issues raised in the EU by disruptive innovations in fields including agro- and bio-technologies. 🌱 In FEASTS, EHU will be working on topics related to ethics, food justice and animal welfare, as well as leading the work package involving 11 FEATS partners, devoted to #foodsafety, nutrition and regulatory assessment. An international workshop on the Ethical and Regulatory issues arising from the CM/CSF will be organised in Bilbao in the autumn of 2025. 📜 In terms of food governance, EU pre-market authorization means access to the market in all 27 Member States. EHU is responsible for tasks devoted to positioning #culturedmeat and seafood within the current requirements and procedures of EU food law. Guidelines will be proposed for the future establishment of a framework taking into account the specifications of cultured meat. Another task led by EHU will identify labeling needs and related traceability requirements, addressing aspects of mandatory labeling and voluntary claims which refer to health, sustainability, animal welfare, etc. 🎓 The EHU FEASTS team is led by Leire Escajedo San-Epifanio (Prof. Law and Ethics, second PhD in Biotechnology) and Ester Suñén Pardo (Prof. Food Technologies). 🤝New Project Aims to Reduce Food Waste in School Canteens 🍽️🌍 We are happy to announce 📢 that since June 2024, the Department of International Business (Prague University of Economics and Business)Faculty of International Relations /Prague University of Economics and Business/ has embarked on a multidisciplinary international project titled “Circular solutions for keeping food waste out of Central Europe’s schools”, or foodCIRCUS. This project is 80% financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) within the Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE Programme and is planned to run until November 2026 🗓️. The research team consists of Ing. Alena Filipová, Ph.D., Ing. Veronika Mokrejšová, Ph.D., Ing. M.Sc. Tomáš Sadílek, Ph.D. (team leader), and Ing. Jiří Zeman, Ph.D. 📚. The project 📝focuses on the issue of food waste in school canteens with the aim of preventing this waste 🚮. 🤝10 partners from 5 countries are involved in the project 🌐. The participating universities are the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU), Czech Prague University of Economics and Business and VSB - Technical University of Ostrava, the Italian Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna, Budapest’s University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest, Polish Wroclaw University of Science and Technology and Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences; the Czech organization Save Food, the Polish city of Wrocław and the Austrian organization Reploid Value Solutions GmbH are also involved. On June 6-7, a kick-off meeting took place in Vienna on which the goals for the individual stages, the expected results of the project and its timetable were specified 📈. The steps taken by individual partners during the first six months of the project were discussed in detail. Prague University of Economics was represented by Ing. M.Sc. Consumers search for and are eager to explore a diverse range of plant-rich foods on the market.    Our partners in South-East part of Finland observe the increasing need for experts in the field of food technology. For the graduation project at HAS green academy, Isabell Fitz, Khanh Di Le, and I will explore how the dominant narratives relate to core activities or outcomes in the Dutch Food System, such as ·      Agricultural production (the role of nature that relates to human lifestyle) ·      Nutritional intake (nutritional deficiency, meat vs plant-based) ·      Food consumption (social effect, environment, education, and security) This project focuses on the transition to a more sustainable food system using the Nationale Wetenschapsagenda (NWA) framework. The project's primary research question is "𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘥𝘰 𝘯𝘢𝘳𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘭𝘶𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘴𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘮 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘕𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴?" And we would like different stakeholders within the Dutch food system to participate in interviews and focus groups to help analyse the current and alternative narratives.
