This month, DCAC hosted an in-person external Spanish Forensic Interviewing Peer Review. Bilingual interviewers from Children's Advocacy Center for North Texas, Children's Advocacy Center of Collin County, and Alliance For Children joined together to discuss best practices when interviewing children in Spanish. This session allowed our interviewers to receive feedback on interviewing techniques and discuss linguistics and the latest research on forensic interviewing. We are thankful to have strong partners in our CACs across Texas who are committed to providing the best services possible to our clients who speak Spanish. #dallascac #dcac #cactx #forensicinterview #spanish

"In a national survey of Latino families (N = 750) with young children conducted during the fall of 2023 in collaboration with BSP Research, 38% of Latino families whose children receive speech therapy reported being told by the therapist to stop or reduce speaking Spanish to their child. This brief offers an approach to support Latino parents and families and programs that work with them to understand the evidence on early bilingual development and prepare them to advocate for their children effectively and confidently." https://lnkd.in/dVBs4MsY

📣 Addressing Language Barriers in Stanislaus County: A Call to Action from LCR https://lnkd.in/ggscDhYn As the Latino Community Roundtable (LCR), we are deeply committed to representing the voices and concerns of our diverse community in Stanislaus County. A recent article by The Modesto Bee has brought to light a critical issue that we cannot overlook: the lack of Spanish translation for the 2023-2028 Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) documents. 🌍 Understanding Our Community Dynamics: In Stanislaus County, almost half of the residents speak a language other than English at home. With a significant portion of our community being Spanish speakers, it's imperative that crucial documents like the CEDS are accessible in Spanish. This is not just about compliance; it's about ensuring meaningful participation for all in shaping our county's future. 💬 Key Concerns Identified: - Inadequate Civic Participation: The absence of Spanish translations for pivotal documents such as the CEDS is effectively excluding a significant segment of our Latino community. - Equity and Inclusion: This decision contravenes the spirit of equity and inclusivity that should underpin all civic processes. 🔍 LCR's Perspective: As an organization, we believe that every resident has the right to access information in a language they understand. This is essential for fostering an inclusive environment where every voice is valued and considered in decision-making processes that impact their lives. ✨ Our Recommendations: 1. Immediate Translation: The CEDS and other vital documents must be translated into Spanish to ensure they are accessible to all. 2. Broadening Engagement Strategies: The county should adopt comprehensive strategies that encompass language and comprehension barriers, enabling active participation from every segment of our community. 👥 LCR's Commitment: We are dedicated to advocating for the rights and needs of our Latino community. We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that our voices are heard and respected in all aspects of civic life in Stanislaus County. 🤝 Join Us in Our Effort: We invite our community members and allies to join us in this call for change. Together, we can build a more inclusive and equitable Stanislaus County where every resident's voice matters. #StanislausCounty #LCR #Inclusion #CommunityEngagement #LanguageAccess #Equity #paracomunidad #sisepuede Rachel H.
