The world's second large methanol-enabled container vessel was named "Astrid Mærsk". "Astrid Mærsk” is the second of Maersk’s 18 large methanol-enabled vessels, scheduled for delivery between 2024 and 2025. Elbdeich Reederei declares option on two methanol-fuelled boxship newbuilds German owner Elbdeich Reederei has declared an option at China’s Wenchong yard for two methanol dual-fuel containership newbuilds. Elbdeich ordered a pair of 1,250 teu feeder vessels in October backed by a charter deal with Unifeeder and will manage them after delivery in 2026. The contract included options for two more similar ships for Unifeeder. These units, which have now been firmed up are slated for delivery in September and December of 2026, according to brokers. The newbuilds will be deployed on Unifeeder’s European network. The vessel is being built for Faroe Islands operator VARDIN | Seafood from the Faroe Islands and is the first of three new vessels to be built for the Faroe Islands. The following two fishing vessels are jointly owned by Vardin and fellow Faroe Island operator, Framherji, and will also feature the Wärtsilä 25 engine. With increasing pressure for the marine industry to decarbonise, fishing operators are focused more than ever on reducing fuel consumption and increasing overall vessel efficiency.
