We are delighted to once again be supporting and working with the amazing team at Bedminster Winter Lantern Parade, which is back bigger and better than ever. This wonderful initiative will see hundreds of hand-made lanterns lighting up the streets around Bedminster on Saturday 18th January from 5pm. Thousands are expected to turn out to see this much-loved local community event, along the new route that takes participants parallel to our Stafford Yard development in Bedminster Green. Well it's been a proper busy week this week. I spent Monday and Tuesday at a couple of MHCLG Roundtables with Alex Norris MP and lots of sector people (Nick Plumb was good to kinda see you over the teams link). My take aways from the debate (which tbh feel incredibly familiar for anyone that's been in our sector for a while) * making lasting change in communities needs long-term commitment and a more balanced relationship between 'top down' and 'bottom up'. * 'intermediary organisations' (organisations that are grounded in their place and are community led) are critically important for enabling change and bringing together the right partnerships * communities can and should be trusted to hold and spend funds, shaping programmes around what they know they need (who knew?) Some interesting questions that I took away: * what's the relationship/how can we strengthen the relationship between town councils/parishes as democracies most local tier and community organisations? *how can we shape existing community Rights to make them more useful and meaningful? --- and my overarching thought - Local Infrastructure Organisations are the ultimate 'intermediary organisation' they exist (amongst other things) to link up the different bits of community action and 'the state' and increasingly they work with neighbourhood anchors/intermediary orgs to enable us to be more than the sum or our parts (thinking of you Hannah Bailey, Rebecca Mear and loads of others). *** Well - Roundtables are all very well - but the best bit of my job is getting out of my box and meeting the fantastic people and organisations that are out there making change every day and I had the opportunity to do that when I visited Hunts Forum of Voluntary Organisations' AGM. I was priviledged to be there for 30 years of Hunts Forum, for Julie Farrow's last AGM and for the vote on an exciting new chapter. I absolutely love Hunts Forums 'Good to Go Governance mark' (https://lnkd.in/gcnJYvEF) which enables community orgs to know that they're up and running effectively and safely. Nurture Development - Programmes are artificial constructs that enable the dance between funders and agencies. Programmes do not change lives, people do, and for that change to endure it must come grassroots up and be community-driven. Did you know Imagine Housing has 183 subsidized units which reimburses at 3x the affordable housing rent. 110 tenants not living in subsidized units pay less than 30% of their income for rent. these rents range from 5% to 29% of their gross income for housing. This occurs because Imagine Housing does not use affordable housing allowed practices of AMI reclassification and the Over Income Clause 62 tenant households pay what is considered not rent burdened and pay 30% to 39% of their gross income for rent. 183 Imagine households are rent burdened from 40% to 100% of their gross income. Imagine allows tenants to sign a lease when their income is 1.5 X the affordable Housing rent amount. Please consider giving to Imagine having a in house subsidy program for these 183 families. This important in-house subsidy program need will increase when Samma in Bothell is completed, and leasing begins.
As we prepare for Building Community Together next Friday, we'd like to give a special thank you to our event sponsors. Together, you are showing the community that you actively engage in a cause that positively impacts our entire community: the creation of permanent affordable housing for low-income families and individuals, along with services to help them thrive.

Key Challenges: Lack of Awareness: Potential supporters may not fully understand the unique services you provide or the specific impact you have on families in need. Resource Competition: There may be competition with other organizations for the same pool of donors or community partnerships. Capacity Constraints: Limited internal resources may restrict the ability to attend events, engage in networking opportunities, or build meaningful relationships.
