In the last few years, I've noticed many friends or ex-colleagues set up their recruitment businesses, and this seemed like more than usual, so as you do on the Tuesday after a Bank Holiday at 7:00 pm, I did some research... 🤓
According to Companies House, almost 65,549 companies with the SIC code '78109' were incorporated in the last twenty years (DATE RANGE USED - 7/5/2004 - 7/5/2024). 👩💻
Of those, 31,396 are still active, so almost half. But I was keen to know what the data said pre-COVID.
Now, I appreciate that COVID-19 might not have started in May 2020 (Lockdown was announced in March) in the UK, but recruitment workers were being furloughed, and there was much uncertainty, so I used 7/5 as my date, as today's date is 7/5. 🙄
So, since 7th May 2020, 22,302 companies have been incorporated.
That's 34% of the total 'recruitment companies' incorporated in the last 20 years.
I know it's early days, but 75% of these 'new' businesses are still active.
What's changed? 💡
Is it easier to set up a business these days? ⛔
Has people's attitudes to risk changed? ⚖
Does working remotely make it easier? 🏡
What do you think?
