STCW Direct course of the day from MaritimeMT who are based in Malta STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue Boats (PSCRB) – Refresher Seafarers holding an existing PSCRB qualification are required to refresh their certificate of proficiency every five years to maintain proficiency under the STCW 2010 Manila Amendments (STCW Section A-VI/2). Course Structure - The aims of the course are to ensure that candidate are thoroughly knowledgeable about the following: General – Emergency situations, Training, Drills and Operational readiness of equipment. Abandoning ship in an emergency and the possibility of damaged survival crafts. Different types of Survival crafts and rescue boats. Different types of launching arrangements, different methods of operation, advantages and disadvantages. Proper use of survival craft equipment. Drill schedules. “What would I learn If I could start over as a Deck Cadet?”🚢 The first time you step up on board a ship - the most exciting moment for each seafarer. You were studying for years just to have an access to the terminal gate! Crazy, yeah? 😂 Knots 🪢, basic navigation 🧭, theory of ship’s construction - that’s all subjects I still remember from the college before joining of Sailing Training Vessel as a Cadet. Question: “Was there enough hands-on knowledge for the first months on board?”. No! Studying for a profession at university provides a foundation of knowledge and skills, but may not fully prepare you for the practical, hands-on experience of a real job. In the vast ocean of uncertainties while traveling, one thing stands firm: SAFETY at SEA is non-negotiable. Let's explore the certifications that ensure tranquility on a dream yacht charter. In addition to the knowledge, experience and licensing of the Yacht Captain - to prioritize the safety of guests, crew and the yacht whilst onboard, there are two essential certificates all yacht crew are legally required by the (International Maritime Organization (IMO) to obtain in order to work onboard any yacht regardless of size of yacht and their role onboard. Depends what you do. BOSIET is definitely required for Oil and gas sector because it includes helicopter survival. Oil and gas survey will sometimes accept GWO unless the Client's standard conditions exclude it, but both HUET and GWO may be dictated by the client. Oil and gas are rarely concerned with Working at Heights - there is no BOSIET equivalent. Local requirements apply. I had to do a local H2S course for the Danish Sector in 2019, I had a OPITO one from RoK which was accepted by the Client but not the Contractor. Marine crew are a different issue because they don't usually change by helicopter, with offshore rigs being the main exception. STCW is basically for marine crew, although I did do it at one time (local requirements again)
