What is STCW? STCW stands for Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers. This standard was adopted by the International Conference on Training and Certification of Seafarers and entered into force in 1984, 40 years ago. It was the first standard to establish basic requirements on training, certification and watchkeeping for seafarers on an international level. Previously the standards were established by individual governments, usually without reference to practices in other countries. As a result, standards and procedures varied widely, even though shipping is a hugely international industry. We offer a wide range of STCW courses, including initial and refresher training – some certificates need renewing after five years to maintain competence. All our STCW provision is accredited by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and we are audited regularly to ensure compliance. STCW Direct course of the day from Flying Fish UK Updated STCW Basic Safety Training If you are working as a Seafarer onboard a ship, or are returning to sea and completed your STCW Basic Safety Training Course more than five years ago, then the STCW Refresher Course is for you. If you hold Personal Survival Techniques (PST) and Fire Fighting (FP&FF) qualifications, then as of 1st January 2017, you must have evidence of having completed an STCW updated training course within the last five years. The new STCW Refresher Course was introduced as part of the 2010 STCW Manila amendments to the STCW convention. These changes came about because it was recognised that Seafarers do not have the opportunity to practice tackling real fires or launch life rafts as part of monthly drills. Therefore, updated training of these practical skills was needed. For more info click the following link https://buff.ly/3yoIJdJ
