US markets closed lower last week with no significant catalyst. The Nasdaq Composite fell 0.71% to 17,732.60, the S&P 500 slid 0.41% to 5,460.48, and the Dow Jones dropped 0.12% to 39,118.86.

The S&P 500 closed 1.1% lower Monday. On the second-to-last day of 2024, the benchmark index is still on track for its second straight yearly gain of more than 20%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gave back 1%, and the Nasdaq composite lost 1.2%.

S&P and NASDAQ ended the day nearly unchanged after a slight midday pullback, showing resilience amid minor losses in small and mid-cap sectors. The Dow showed relative strength. Following a 3.5% climb in four days, some consolidation is natural. The S&P's support at 5115 holds firm, with eyes set on surpassing late March highs near 5264.85.
