So I asked to work with a stylist for more exposure and experience. However, they couldn't offer me a rate per day I felt made sense to me. I knew he had some work coming in but it was more editorials which doesn't pay. He said, at some point, big jobs will come in but for now he could only offer £20 per day. I had a decision to make. Bearing in mind I was assisting other stylists too (Another tip - assist more than one stylist at the same time) So, I accepted the £20 per day. But on the condition that when those big jobs come I will be paid extra. Few months down the line, those big jobs came. Back to back to back. I got paid well at the time for a few days work. (Check post) 👇🏾 Note* I still worked hard, was polite, never complained, and showed up on time each day. Learned, observed and literally assisted him whenever he needed me. Despite only getting £20 per day. That Is literally the definition of delayed gratification. The Takeaway for Aspiring Stylists: - Assist as many stylists as you can, they all work differently. - Be strategic in your endeavours. Can't work for free forever. - Your soft skills are just as important, if not more important than your hard skills. Styledbytyson.com Peace 💋🤘🏽

I want to talk about something that I think we've all struggled with at some point: feeling like we're just not good enough. I remember when I first started my career as a personal stylist, I felt like I was constantly comparing myself to others. I'd see other stylists' work and think, "Wow, they're so much better than me!" or "I'll never be able to style like that!" But here's the thing: we're all on our own journey. And the truth is, we're all good enough, just as we are. I've learned that it's okay to take things one step at a time, to focus on my own strengths and weaknesses, and to be kind to myself along the way. And that's exactly what I want to help you with! As a personal stylist, my goal is to help you feel confident and expressive in your own skin. To help you find your own personal style and rock it with conviction! Because when we feel good about what we're wearing, we feel good about ourselves. And that's a powerful thing! So, let's make a pact to be kind to ourselves and to celebrate our own unique journeys. Let's embrace our quirks and flaws, and let our true selves shine! Who's with me? #PersonalStylist #SelfLove #ConfidenceIsKey

Helping women in business make more money by levelling up their image, brand and mind. Podcaster. Image Consultant. Media Style Expert.
Things you need to nail in a consult with a client as a stylist: 📣these consults are paid for, you don’t need to know the ins and outs of someone’s needs before they are a client📣 1. Clarity. It is your job to make your client feel seen and understood in their vision. As the stylist, you need to be clear abd manage their expectations. You set the stage. 2. Lay it out. People are both excited and nervous to work with a stylist for the first time. Create confidence by explaining how the sessions will unfold and what happens in each. 3. Boundaries. No ma’am, you may not message me at all hours of the day/weekends and drag your service out for months. Set up parameters upfront and be clear in the start/finish and how/when they can connrct with you. 4. Payment upfront (which should have happened already to make the consult possible 😉). Paid clients are committed clients. If you’re blocking off hours of your time, they can reserve their appt. This avoids people who reschedule 24/7. Join my stylist training to make your styling business a smooth and easy success. Early bird pricing ends Friday.

Assistant Diaries: Navigating Rough Waters in the Fashion World Story #2 Years ago I reached out to a stylist whose work I admired, offering my assistance in exchange for experience. An opportunity arose, and I joined her and her first assistant for a shoot. Me and her 1st assistant worked closely, chatting about our career paths. I shared my aspiration to become a stylist, while the first assistant expressed her own uncertainties about the industry ( I think she had just finished college at the time) The shoot went well, but on my way home or I think I was actually at home, I received an abrupt text from the stylist. She bluntly stated she didn't want to work with me again, citing a conversation with her first assistant who supposedly felt I didn't want to be there. I was shocked. This was untrue, and I hadn't even been given the chance to clarify. No empathy, No integrity. I thought people just do what they want with you and not even value you enough to give you a conversation. I was completely disheartened especially having cold Dm'd this person asking for an opportunity. That experience left a bad taste In my mouth (Pause). Is this how the industry treats newcomers? A lack of empathy and communication? It made me question whether my ambition was misplaced. However, In hindsight, I realised this wasn't a reflection of my abilities, but rather a lesson in leadership—and self-preservation. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀: 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀 & 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀: Remember, your actions leave a lasting impression. Especially when working with aspiring talent, fostering open communication and treating everyone with respect, regardless of their role, is crucial for building a positive industry culture. 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀: While sharing your ambitions is important, choose your confidantes wisely. Not everyone will be your cheerleader. Focus on building your skills and treating everyone with respect, as your professionalism will speak for itself. By maintaining my integrity and learning from every encounter, I'm determined to carve a path that's both successful and respectful to all. Have a great day my people Peace & Love 💋🤘🏽 #Fashionstylist #Positiveculture #Leadership
