The 2024 International Education Conference with the Theme: "The African Century; Harnessing the Potentials of African Intellectual for Rapid Economic Growth" is currently underway in Kumasi. It's a great pleasure and an opportunity to be part of this great conference. President John F. Kennedy once said "Those who look only to the past or the present are certain to miss the future". This has do with innovation which seeks to find solutions or solve our problems. We have a duty and responsibility to see the future and think into it. This conference brings together PhD holders and PhD students in African countries to present and discuss the strategic development of their communities, societies and nations. It's said that "What profits a beautiful flower, if it is nestled in the forest". We don't have to wait for things to happen for us; we need to make things happen for communities, counties and continent.

The Draghi report raises key questions for Universities The #Draghi report, published last week, has already influenced Ursula von der Leyen's political guidelines for the next Commission. It has also framed the key priorities for the next College of Commissioners, announced yesterday. But it also begs key questions for universities: How do we achieve, as a university system, inclusiveness and excellence? How do we know we have the right balance - that we continue to compete with the world's best universities for researchers, students and resources, while also ensuring that excellence in research and teaching pervades the entire higher education system? And how do we avoid an over concentration of resources and investment in a few places, while also creating a vibrant ecosystem of researchers, innovators and startups across Europe? How do we create an expanded framework programme for research and education that responds to Europe's strategic needs - but that also remains global in reach, distinguished by close collaboration (not least including 🇬🇧 🇨🇭), focused firmly on common sustainable development challenges? And how do we focus on Europe's skills needs for STEM , while fully using the capacity of universities to strengthen the critical capacities of students, and to provide key skills that we also need, e.g. in languages or in cultural knowledge? Some critical questions posed by #Draghi - they should occupy us - policy-makers, universities, and citizens - for some time to come! 📢 Introducing the speakers of the first #PlenarySession at the #IAUTokyo2024 Conference! The IAU 2024 International Conference, taking place this November at Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan, includes three Plenary Sessions, the first of which will discuss "Universality, Diversity, and Interdependence." We at the IAU look forward to hearing from the three distinguished speakers on this panel: - Simon Marginson, Professor of Higher Education, University of Oxford - Sandra Almeida, President, UFMG, Brazil - Patrick Deane, Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Queen's University, Canada About the Session: Values, deeply embedded in cultures and traditions, are intrinsic to the very essence of universities since their inception. Indeed, universities are the very places most suitable to examine them both historically and theoretically. They are fragile and precious resources, without which we stand no hope of confronting the challenges of the present. In a context in which university leaders are ever more drawn into profound political, economic, cultural and social issues, university values are increasingly being tested and contested at the local and global level. Amid the rich and diverse set of cultures and traditions around the world, what are the fundamental values that universities share? What is their meaning and purpose? How do they guide leadership and overall decision-making, ethical conduct and meaningful engagement? In brief, how do universities navigate the ethical dimensions of universality and diversity in a world of interdependence? There has been a recent emphasis on the practices on the interior dimensions of sustainability, such as values, beliefs, worldviews and inner capacities. It highlights the urgent need for more integrative approaches that link inner dimensions of sustainability to support transformation across individual, collective and system levels. Swedish Social Work students are at AP Panchgani to experience the mission of Initiatives of Change . Initiatives of Change (IofC) is a world-wide movement of people of diverse cultures and backgrounds, who are committed to the transformation of society through changes in human motives and behaviour, starting with their own. Meaningful education and capacity building of our students must include the learning experiences that lead to inner transformation. This week at Grampari is going to guide them through a lot of reflection on purpose, integrity, ethical governance, trust building and more. Social work education ( for that matter all education) must invest in our students' ability to build a whole self where spiritual dimension is an integral part. We have given a lot of attention to the cognitive domain and some work on affctive domain. The need of the hour is help students build a moral compass that can guide them navigate through the complexity of our world. #Socialworkeducation #socialworkprinciples #ethicalleadership #trustbuilding #bethechange Örebro University Mid Sweden University Stockholm University Uppsala University Linkoping university
