Customer experience will make or break your firm. How would your firm rate out of 10? I was in Melbourne a few weeks ago visiting some of our clients. I always enjoy this part of my role. Its always interesting going to our clients’ offices, seeing their environments and their teams. One area I pay attention to is the experience they provide when you visit them. Things like how long you sit in reception waiting for the person you are seeing. If you are an inconvenience to their team or are they excited for you to be there. How their office presents, is it modern and inline with the way the firm markets itself. I am often disappointed by these visits. I think its an area firms don’t do well. But there are also firms that do it really well. Their offices are well designed, modern, inspiring workplaces that creates a high-performance environment. When was the last time you put yourself in your customers shoes. Customers pay for service, but we should be providing them with positive experiences. What level of experience do they get with every interaction with your firm? Maybe its time for a review.

Job descriptions are pretty important. The duties we establish in roles can influence the training that the employee receives, the parts of their role that htey value, and their choice to apply for the role in the first place. For several years, I had the opportunity to be part of a unique company with a truly exceptional workplace culture: Châteauform'. Of course she was right! How can anyone explain what a great customer experience looks like without referencing the team that creates it? They are the ones who live the culture day in and day out and share it with others. Company culture and customer experience are two sides of the same coin, inextricably linked. Outstanding customer experiences do not exist in a vacuum. Rather, they are intentional outcomes of an inclusive and self-reflective culture where employees are not only seen and heard, but even inspired by their work environment, leaders & team. These conditions allow them to make meaningful contributions according to their talents and personal strengths. It sounds obvious, but creating and sustaining outstanding customer experiences requires focus and dedication: while progress begins with small steps, truly exceptional customer experience requires a comprehensive approach. It is a carefully crafted journey with workplace culture at its core. It is never too late to lay the foundation for a transformative culture and thus for unique and unforgettable customer experiences.
