Don’t be in the dark about knife crime. Look at some of the sharp facts below about knife crime… . Every nine days a teenager in the UK is stabbed. . Knives are the UK’s number one murder weapon. . Knife crime isn’t just a gang issue. 89 per cent of knife murders have nothing to do with gang crime. . It’s illegal to carry a knife, unless you have a legitimate reason. . Self-protection is not a reasonable excuse for carrying an offensive weapon. . Carrying a knife can mean four years in prison, even if you don’t use it. . It’s illegal to buy a knife if you’re under 18 years old. . The police can stop and search anyone they think is carrying a weapon. . It’s illegal to buy, sell or carry any type of banned knife. . You don’t have to just stab someone to be in trouble, under a law called ‘joint enterprise’ you could end up in prison too even if you didn’t touch or use the weapon. . By carrying a knife, you’re much more likely to get stabbed yourself as situations involving weapons can quickly get out of control. . What drives increasing levels of crime? Anywhere? Poverty? Racial issues? Class issues? It’s VERY simple. Although fixing the problem isn’t so simple. Being successful (at crime) drives the crime stats up. Because the criminal keeps doing it… until caught. The more that criminals are unsuccessful, killed in the attempt, and or after, IF they get caught prosecuted and held in jail, the less likley they will reoffend. It’s a very simple fix. When the criminal fears his victim, and / or fears the consequences, crime goes down. Always. Always.

Knife Crime 🔪 Did you hear our MD Glenn Bartlett recently on BBC Tees discussing knife crime in #Teesside? With Middlesbrough being the second highest to Birmingham in the UK 🤯 Some of you may have seen Idris Elba’s campaign in #London, “Don’t Stop your Future” where clothes were laid out to represent victims of knife crime. Between July 2022 to June 2023, 247 teenagers and young adults lost their lives due to knife crime in London. It is one of the most powerful campaigns we’ve witnessed here at CPS, and it highlights just how dangerous it is to carry weapons. Unfortunately, this is also something we see here in Teesside, with teenagers believing that carrying a weapon, will solve their problems, when in reality, it won’t. Our MD Glenn, shared his opinions on knife crime, and why this campaign is so important: “This is surprisingly a more common occurrence we see in #Teesside, with some of our team members that have had weapons drawn on them at some point in their career. It’s just not on, and it’s incredible to see public figures stand up for change, and we hope the Government actually listens this time.” This is just the beginning of this crucial campaign, urging government cooperation. The just-released data from the Bureau of Justice Statistics’s National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) shows violent crime has soared under Biden-Harris. Under Biden, rape soared by 42%, robbery by 63%, and aggravated assaults by 55%. If you look at rape, robbery, and aggravated assaults (the NCVS doesn’t measure murder), between 2016 and 2020, violent crime fell by 15% under Trump and soared by 55% under Biden between 2020 and 2023. https://lnkd.in/ex8aPNez
