Google’s controversial #cookie replacement is now in its most critical test phase yet. Ad execs are diving into three major areas of the #PrivacySandbox without tweaking a thing. It’s all about tracking outcomes for them. Adform will be at it for six weeks, while Criteo and Magnite will extend testing for an additional two. These tests kicked off last week. Meanwhile, other #adtech firms, preferring anonymity, told Digiday their own evaluations are slated to start next month. It’s getting a little tedious now trying to aggregate all the reported shortcomings of the Privacy Sandbox. It’s still not available for testing in Googles own DSP-a real sign of faith in their own solution’s preparedness. According to the IAB, real-time bidding is seriously at risk; and in summary, no these APIs don’t really work as they are today. Everytime someone asks me if we’re testing these products I can’t help but smirk…testing what, exactly? Despite its complexities and fragmentation, the Privacy Sandbox serves as the more viable path forward for a cookieless future. MiQ has already taken massive strides to accomplish this through our Privacy Sandbox testing program in the UK and upcoming plans for Protected Audiences API testing. Still, there's much more to come ahead of the cookieless deadline. According to our Global Strategy & Partnerships Director Georgiana Haig, widespread testing from industry leaders will be what determines success. Here Google responds to common concerns it is hearing from the ad tech community about its Privacy Sandbox, just one week into the main thrust of the experiment.
