A year later after the congressional testimony: Healthcare passivity on Nursing Shortage continues to cost billions! https://lnkd.in/gSmt7PSz The nursing shortage continues to cost the healthcare industry billions of dollars annually – and patient safety is suffering. Last year alone, preventable medical errors linked to understaffing cost an estimated $20 billion. A year has passed since congressional testimony, yet passivity continues. It's time for hospital leaders to wake-up, the solution requires a bold workforce strategy: 1. Think strategically, not just financially: Prioritize staff headcounts not budget FTEs. 2. Have a Plan: Proactive hiring and anticipating retirement cycles minimizes reactive standard hiring practices. 3. Prioritize patient safety: Protect patient assignments to avoid clinical and financial disaster. 4. Dismantle premium-pay labor: Apply state of the art operational practices to eliminate unsustainable premium-pay and staff burnout. 5. Access the global talent pool: Extend direct recruitment efforts to the global labor market. 6. Invest in retention: Protect your existing, valuable staff from being poached by competitors. For more detailed solutions, check out my article [ https://lnkd.in/gCyjJdAi ]. Let's stop the financial bleeding and the erosion of quality care! #nursingshortage #healthcare #nurseleaders #hospitalmanagement #workforcestrategy

✨ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗘𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 ✨ Adequate staffing levels are pivotal for maintaining high standards of patient care. When healthcare facilities are well-staffed, patients receive timely and attentive care, which improves health outcomes and patient satisfaction. Conversely, understaffed facilities may experience delays in care, increased errors, and higher patient mortality rates. Healthcare workers are able to provide more personalized and comprehensive care when staffing levels are sufficient. They can spend adequate time with each patient, address concerns thoroughly, and develop tailored treatment plans. This fosters better patient-provider relationships and enhances the overall quality of care. Moreover, proper staffing contributes to a safer work environment. Overworked staff are more likely to experience burnout, stress, and fatigue, which can lead to mistakes and compromise patient safety. Thus, ensuring optimal staffing levels is essential for both patient welfare and healthcare worker well-being. #PatientSafety #HealthcareStaffing #QualityCare #NurseStaffing #SafeHealthcare 🚑👩⚕️🩺

The direct care is indeed an important one.
In the heart of our healthcare system lies an urgent challenge: the critical shortage of direct care workers. These are the individuals—home health aides, personal care aides—who bring compassion into the homes of our most vulnerable, yet their vital contributions often go unrecognized. The pandemic brought this issue into sharp focus, sparking policy initiatives to stabilize and uplift this workforce through enhanced wages and training. While these efforts mark progress, they are just the beginning of a longer journey. For me, this isn't just a professional concern; it's personal. I see the faces behind the statistics daily, and their stories fuel my drive to advocate for a future where direct care roles are respected, offering pathways for growth and fair compensation. The strides we've made are commendable, but much remains to be done. Let's ensure our healthcare reform conversations amplify the voices of those on the front lines. I'm dedicated to championing direct care workers, recognizing their essential role in our healthcare ecosystem. Together, we can build a more equitable, dignified, and respectful healthcare future. #DirectCareChampions #HealthcareHeroes #HealthCare #Hospitals

Acquiring and retaining frontline workers is critical for any organization, but for those in the 24/7 health care industry, it’s essential. Losing essential health care workers causes downstream issues in scheduling, backfilling and replacing workers, patient care, and more. We developed a retention risk predictive model to identify bedside nurses and call center workers who were likely to leave within six months. After what Victorian healthcare workers have been through in the last four years, I can completely understand the anger, frustration and disappointment expressed within this headline. There’s a highly competitive international and domestic market for healthcare workers. If the state Government imposes severe austerity measures on health services the negative impacts on workforce recruitment and retention will be generational. Our workforce needs immediate transparency and clarity on the impacts of the proposed health service model budgets. https://lnkd.in/ggRm2w4s
