When healthcare facilities are well-staffed, patients receive timely and attentive care, which improves health outcomes and patient satisfaction. Conversely, understaffed facilities may experience delays in care, increased errors, and higher patient mortality rates. Healthcare workers are able to provide more personalized and comprehensive care when staffing levels are sufficient. They can spend adequate time with each patient, address concerns thoroughly, and develop tailored treatment plans. This fosters better patient-provider relationships and enhances the overall quality of care. Moreover, proper staffing contributes to a safer work environment. Overworked staff are more likely to experience burnout, stress, and fatigue, which can lead to mistakes and compromise patient safety. After what Victorian healthcare workers have been through in the last four years, I can completely understand the anger, frustration and disappointment expressed within this headline. There’s a highly competitive international and domestic market for healthcare workers. If the state Government imposes severe austerity measures on health services the negative impacts on workforce recruitment and retention will be generational. We need to innovate... And we don't need to wait for the next public health emergency to do so. Everyone can appreciate now that our healthcare system has been in crisis. Because the pandemic revealed a lot about our society, and it forced us to solve problems quickly. Now because of that pressure, we have responded with some solutions. We have a ton of foreign-trained physicians, nurses, and practitioners who are now working in healthcare. We need more of that and much faster.
