I was invited to attend the annual Digital Services Awards organized by GovTech Singapore, an annual event to recognize government agencies for their outstanding achievements and excellence in delivering digital services to the public. This is the third time that the event has been running and a new award category - "Outstanding Citizen Contributor" has been introduced to recognize citizens who have contributed extensively to the improvement of Government Digital Services through government agencies, the CrowdTaskSG platform, and Tech Kaki Community. It's my honor to be chosen as one of the outstanding citizen contributors under CrowdTaskSG. Many thanks to the CrowdTaskSG team whom I met in person at the event, their work in getting citizen participation through surveys and challenges on the crowdtask platform and thereafter collating data to work with the various government agencies in formulating policies or improvements to make Singapore a better place for us all. Kudos to Lynette Tay, Eileen Chia, Andy Chua, and your CrowdTask team, thanks for your great efforts! Digitalization has been revolutionary, especially since the year 2020 when almost everything went online as we stayed indoors. How the design of the digital services with the end user in mind will be one of the key focuses that was also mentioned by the Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of Communications and Information and Minister-in-Charge of GovTech, Dr. Janil Puthucheary. He spoke about how we cannot be empathetic alone, and that it's two ways and between two parties in a relationship, hence the theme at this year's award - "Empathy at the Heart of Tech". After attending the event, I have a newfound respect for the amazing work that the various government agencies have been doing behind the scenes in creating digital services for Singapore citizens, to allow us to be able to access government resources at ease and at any time of the day. My view of the work that civil service employees do has been refreshed and I must say that it is so much more exciting and forward-looking than what I thought many years ago when I was a student. The AI theme has been pretty much running for most part of the year until July. In fact, my first 2 SGX Academy webinars earlier this year had been on the AI theme, talking about (1) REITs and Data Centres, and (2) AI-Spillover stocks on SGX. But in the recent past 2-3 weeks, we have seen quite a big correction on the global markets, especially on the AI-theme stocks. Personally, from a thematic point of view, I would like to think that while near-term headwinds still persist, and there are potentially more room for upside for AI going forward. So while the AI theme is taking a breather, is there other sectors that we can look at? After all, investing is about identifying good sector/theme plays and sniffing out good stocks that can potentially benefit from that sector/theme, isn't it? 🛫 💼 On my way back home, waiting for boarding at Vienna Airport I had some time to reflect the All-Hands-Meeting that we had for our EuroCC projekt in the Tatra Mountains in Slovakia 🇸🇰 . First: I again am still surprised how much better face-to-face meetings are compared to our everyday online meetings. Especially when discussing controversial the arguments can be laid out much clearer, especially when you noticed how engaged people are, because you can see more than just their face! 💡🚦 What does this mean now for our project and of course especially for our target group: the (potential) users of HPC and AI in Europe, regardless whether they come from academia, industry or public adminstration? The exchange of ideas that we had during the three days was more than once enlightening: how others try to attract attention, provide the necessary and right information, how they find the right institutions and people whom they are able to help. 🔭 But what was also very helpful: to get an update on the competences around HPC and AI that all our partners have: not only the national competence centers (NCCs) of EuroCC, but also the Centers of Excellence (CoEs) that work on making simulation codes capable of exploiting the fuill potential of EXA-FLOPS systems. And it also became clear, that the information about where to find what is really crucial to be able to help all those who are interested in utilizing these technologies. 🚀 So be prepared to be supported even better by us, our partners at HLRS, at the NCC Germany and EuroCC :-) #EuroCC2 #HPC #HLRS #NCC_Germany
