Hello again, this is Jason, Sandra’s assistant with my third post for the week when I ‘take over’ our social media to highlight the importance of art in our lives. Sandra and I often discuss this topic and as an art advisor she echos and supports my opinions outlined in these posts. Today I would like to discuss the benefits, to anyone’s mental health, from having art in one’s home. Most homes, apart from those of faithful minimalists, tend to have colourful or creative adornments. From shelves filled with books, to colourful soft furnishings to houseplants. Does your kitchen have a fridge decorated with magnets from city’s you have visited or events you have attended? Mine certainly does! All of these ’decorations’ are an extension of the personality of the people that live there. It creates a feeling of tranquility but also shows off their individuality and personal taste. I love visiting friends houses and seeing how, given the freedom to create their own unique ambiance, they furnish their homes. This is where art plays a huge roll. Art benefits a person’s health and viewing art can lower rates of anxiety and depression and produce a higher satisfaction with one’s life. Looking at art causes increases in dopamine, the pleasure hormone, to be released, which helps greatly to reduce stress. Also, research has shown, that looking at art can be as beneficial to one’s mental health as creating art. So, you certainly don’t actually have to be artist to benefit from art! So, I would suggest that creating your own personal gallery of art, is not only a potentially savvy financial investment in your future, but also an immediate investment in your present mental health. I have used four of my own images in 'living room' scenarios to hopefully support the above. Hope you enjoy these and would love to hear your opinions. #investmentinthearts #artathome #wellbeing #positivementalhealth #arttherapy #artsforlife #sandrahigginsarts #jasondorleybrown

I provide a safe space for individuals to express themselves through the art of painting, focusing on their mental wellness | Art Therapist | Art Instructor | Mental Health Advocate
Painting is Therapy! We had a pretty exciting day yesterday. Let us say that the weekend started on a high. We have been planning to host the staff from Belva Digital for a painting session as a team building activity and I was abit anxious over how I was going to curate the painting session to meet their needs. The feedback was enough to say that we delivered as expected and beyond. We sampled a few art pieces where they told us why they chose that particular artwork. It was intriguing. It was really deep and it got them in a space where they could safely express themselves through painting. It was a confirmation that they understood the assignment 😄 A time was had! Employees ought to get time out to relax, unwind and socialise away from the office. The painting session delivered the above and more. The session built their self confidence and left them motivated to perform at work as they await the new week. This is critical for the overall well being of employees and most of all it boosts their mental wellness. On #WorldMentalHealthDay2024 , it's important to reflect on the unseen struggles many face daily. Just like this reflection in a puddle, what we show to the world might only be part of the story. Photography, much like mental health, is about capturing the full picture — the light and the shadow, the visible and the hidden. Through my lens, I aim to tell stories that go beyond the surface, encouraging deeper understanding and compassion. Today, let's take a moment to appreciate the depth within ourselves and others. #breakthestigma #MentalHealthMatters #ThroughTheLens #photographyforhealing #artandemotion #visualstorytelling #mindfulphotography #photographytherapy #captureyourfeelings #emotionthroughimages #mentalhealththroughthelens #photoawareness #reflectandcapture

To Celebrate World Mental Health Day, Artees is running a promotion till the end of the Month, where if you bring a minimum of 1 friend, it would be at a reduced rate of 40 per person for a 2 hours time slot. Art is more than just colors on a canvas—it’s a language of the soul. At Artees, we believe that anyone can be an artist, because art is not about talent; it’s about expression. It’s about unlocking the emotions we bury deep within and allowing them to come to life in strokes of paint. Art becomes a mirror for our inner selves, reflecting both our struggles and triumphs. When you pick up a brush, you’re not just painting—you’re transforming stress, anxiety, and negative emotions into something tangible, something beautiful. The act of painting grounds you in the moment, pulls you out of the chaos, and allows you to express things words can’t always convey. It’s a form of release, a therapy that’s both powerful and subtle, giving you the space to breathe and be. At Artees, through shirt and canvas painting, we offer a platform where creativity flows freely, where each brushstroke becomes a step towards mental clarity and emotional resilience. The canvas is your safe space—whether you’re navigating anxiety, stress, or overwhelming thoughts, the paintbrush becomes a tool to quiet your mind and center yourself. And this isn't just an individual journey. When people come together to create, the connection that forms through shared experiences lifts everyone higher. It breaks down walls, combats loneliness, and builds a community where people support and inspire one another. Art isn’t just a hobby—it’s a powerful force for mental wellness. It heals, it empowers, and it reminds us all that even in our darkest moments, beauty can be born. Through art, we paint our way to wholeness. #Worldmentalwellnessday #taketimetopracticementalwellness

Project title: "silent scream" This project explores the discomfort and emotional entrapment experienced by individuals suffering from PTSD, expressed through fashion. Inspired by the concept of a birdcage without an escape door, the garments represent the mental prison that PTSD creates—an invisible but suffocating cage we unknowingly build around ourselves, with no clear way out. Each piece of clothing portrays the sensation of being trapped, with constricting designs that mimic the shape and feel of a cage. The collection evokes a feeling of tension, discomfort, and isolation, mirroring the emotional experience of PTSD. My goal is to use fashion as a medium to raise awareness about the silent battles people face, shedding light on the complex emotions that come with this mental health condition. #MentalHealthAwareness #PTSD #FashionForACause #FashionDesign #EmotionalWellness #CagedWithin #FashionAndMentalHealth #TraumaInFashion #WearYourStory #CreativeFashion #DesignWithPurpose #FashionNarrative #MindAndFashion #FashionForChange #MentalHealthInspiration

The absence of color forces the viewer to focus on the contrast, textures, and tones present in the image. This often results in photographs that evoke a deep sense of emotion and storytelling. The power of black and white goes beyond simply turning down the saturation of an image.https://https://lnkd.in/dF454C2j is the effect of black and white?Black and white photos tend to evoke more dreary, stoic, somber or other negatively associated moods, while color photos lend opportunity for cheery, brighter moods https://lnkd.in/dEnvvwGk thinking has been linked to several different mental health conditions, including personality disorders, eating disorders, depression, and anxiety. Because our thoughts and feelings are connected, black-and-white thinking can cause our emotions to exist at extremes as well.

Clinical Psychologist. Psychotherapist. Somatic Experiencing therapist in training. Writer. Reader. Art lover. Friend of nature. Creative human.
It’s mental health awareness week and from time to time we need to hear encouraging messages and real stories.🍀 “Improve your photography and assume that it’s part of your personality- the same you assume that you like to read and to write.”- a great line that changed my entire vision about this part of me that I almost forgot existed - the love for photography. That’s why you really need to keep close to you the people who want to bring out the best in you - because they appreciate it in you, probably when you don’t have eyes for it yet. I am an amateur photographer, I haven’t taken any classes - When I take photos I only follow my soul and eyes. Since I was a little kid (5 years old, almost 25 years ago), I loved to take photos and to stick them in an album. Now at 30 years old, this passion for photography is more present than ever. With the sun overhead, by the seaside, in a coffee shop, in the park, in nature- I take photos of everything, every little thing that crosses my path. How photography changed my perspective on life:Photography, to me, is the art of noticing. Taking photos supports me in being more present and aware, more active in the process of life and embracing an important element in my development- to change my focus from my mind to the world. This beautiful activity “costs” my past energy-consuming thoughts, my moments of anxiety and my insecurities. Instead, I gained a lot of self-confidence and self-trust. Even if I am a psychologist, I am also a human being and from time to time I also have moments of emotional distress or stressful situations- and that’s why in the initial therapeutic sessions I work firstly with the resources of the person, help them to find or to maintain them - because without knowing what feeds our soul we will not be able to stop the mind. Even when I started to post the photos I had in my mind, I began having consuming thoughts about what people would think or if they would judge that I post too much (the same thing happened years ago when I started to write - so it was a little bit familiar and I knew how to deal with the situation). Yes, it was only in my mind! My mind created this movie scene, but I didn’t want to follow the mind scenario and I wrote my own script. I started to post the photos I take and to enjoy my own art. I understand that I don’t do this art for anyone, but me. And it was refreshing for my system. I create first and foremost for myself and for people who have eyes to see. And to be more specific about how the mind creates unpleasant movie scene and why we don’t need to follow it- I received a lot of positive feedback about my experience with taking pictures. Example of feedback: “ I love what you are creating”, “ I like that you are constant in posting what you see”, “ you inspired me to take photos of nature”- it was a good feeling to see that my mind was wrong. So, please, take care of your passions- embrace them and let them fulfill your soul.
