This morning at World Trade Center Miami, I had the privilege of leading a transformative Santander Navigator workshop, diving deep into the globalisation strategies with our valued providers. Our dynamic discussion centered on the exciting opportunities on the horizon for our subscribers, as well as the formidable challenges that the US market poses for SMEs, along with innovative solutions to overcome them. Later in the day, we were fortunate to visit the impressive operations of American Foods in Miami. Their all-encompassing services cater to every aspect of establishing and expanding a company's presence in the region, from logistics and distribution to market research and strategic partnerships. Witnessing their seamless operation left us invigorated, envisioning boundless possibilities for our clients seeking to extend their reach across the Americas. A key insight from our sessions today underscored the critical need for a meticulously crafted action plan for UK businesses aspiring to make a lasting impact in the US market. Hats off to the NABA INC. Planning committee and everyone who played a role in curating such an inspiring week at the 2024 NABA convention. So honored to have been part of the delegation that represented the CLA (CliftonLarsonAllen) family at this years convention. My heart is full and my spirit energized! As I reflect on the week that was, I am inspired and challenged to be a part of the solution that will improve and increase diversity and representation in the accounting profession. Key takeaways from the conference that really fed my soul: 1. Embrace your power and own your story. 2. There is nothing more powerful than what follows “I am….”. How do you define yourself? What are the stories you are telling yourself? 3. Do you have your personal board of directors? Key ones to have- A mentor, a banker, an attorney and an accountant (CPA). My additional personal favorite- a therapist! 4. The power of relationships. Invest in relationships. 5. AI is here to stay. Lean in. Embrace it. Master it. Let it create opportunities for you! 6. 𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐚 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐚𝐭 𝟐𝐀𝐌? This week, me and my amazing teammates Jia Jia He, Raymond T., and Colin Cragin participated in the Mastercard Advisors Case Competition. The entire judging committee were Directors in Mastercards China division, so we worked according to their schedule! We made it to the finalist round (10/100 teams), and some of our competitors were: • A team of MBA students from Peking University • A team of MBA students from London Business School • A team of engineering and data science graduate students from The University of Hong Kong • An absolutely stellar team of undergraduates from the National University of Singapore The learning opportunities from this experience were absolutely incredible, and seeing how other teams operate internationally was doubly amazing. In addition to placing in the finalist round, we were also awarded the best presentation, an immense honor given our competition. Some key takeaways for me were: 𝟏. 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧’𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬. When your competition includes people who can do real analysis, strategy and key “so-what” recommendations matter the most. 𝟐. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥-𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬. Refine your workflow as much as possible. The top team had such a high-quality level of work one of the judges said it represented a workstream from a real-life consulting engagement and was MBB-level work. 𝟑. 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐝𝐨 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞. If you ever think you’ve finally made it and you’re skilled enough, that’s never the case. There’s always bigger fish and you have to constantly learn and adapt – in my opinion, a great beauty of life. We worked extremely hard, and I’m very proud of what my team was able to accomplish! It’s from them I learned so much, and I won’t ever forget my teammates' faces by the end of the competition. After the adrenaline wore off from presenting at 1AM it was another level of tired!!
