Why utilize undercutting and replacement on a site when you can install aggregate piers instead? As the Southeast keeps growing, sites not needing improvement are becoming harder to find. Often, undocumented fill or other poor soils result in a recommendation to undercut and replace this soil entirely. By installing aggregate piers, this requirement can often be eliminated. On the below site, only 40 aggregate piers were installed to remove a requirement to undercut the whole site by 15 feet! This approach saved approximately 75% of the site preparation budget and 2-3 weeks of schedule. Perry Oakes' Construction Stormwater Tip No. 59: Research at the Auburn Stormwater Research Facility has found that a lot of the under-mining type failures of a silt fence are initiated around the post. The new recommended off-set installation eliminates this issue when installed properly. By offsetting the post 6 in. downstream of the trench allows for the post to be inserted into undisturbed ground. It also allows for better compaction of soil on the silt fence geotextile when filling the trench.

💧 The first pipes have been laid in a new 57km water pipeline, which will support supplies to more than 200,000 people across the North East of England.💧 NWG (Northumbrian Water Group) Project Pipeline: County Durham and the Tees Valley is a huge £155m investment in futureproofing the resilience and quality of water supply to customers. We are constructing Phase 1 of the project which will connect Lartington Water Treatment Works in Upper Teesdale with the town of Gainford and across to Shildon, County Durham. The project will see the replacement of sections of the network that have served the area for more than 100 years, alongside new stretches of pipeline. Pipelaying started from Whorley reservoir and the teams are working in the directions of Lartington and Shildon. A second phase is currently being planned, with work scheduled to start in 2025, further connecting the pipeline on to Teesside at Long Newton. I suppose everyone has their own "favorite" aspects of their job. Mine is construction involving heavy equipment. Always so interesting to watch the site evolve. Take this QuikTrip job being constructed by Ben F. Blanton Construction, Inc. in Maryland Heights, MO for example. First, there was the demolition of the old building, followed by the debris clean-up. Second, a lot of dirt had to be moved, the site cut to grade, and preparing the site for gravel to be put down and compacted. Before long, my absolute favorite aspect of fuel station construction will be starting (third), digging the fuel tank pits followed by swinging the tanks and installing them into the pits. #construction #generalcontracting #commercialconstruction #conveniencestores
