If you look at the site of the new Zoomies Dog Park location on a map the strategy behind its placement might not be obvious at first glance. That is unless, you’re hip enough to know about the work planned by the Buffalo Bayou Partnership to expand the parks trail system east, and our plans for building a walkable corridor that will connect those new trails to the Metro rail line on Harrisburg.
As mentioned in this article, the minds behind Zoomies were strongly considering opening this park in either Montrose or The Heights before discovering all the development queued up for East Houston. After a bike tour of the neighborhood (and a post ride beer at Moontower) with our managing partner, Jeffrey Kaplan, the life-style destined for Second Ward and the value of authentic urbanism via a walkable corridor in Houston was clear, and the deal was sealed.
The Zoomies Dog Park will be located at what will one day be the access point for a bike and pedestrian bridge that will connect 2nd Ward, lower 5th Ward, and the East River urban village like never before.
Check out this article from the Houston Chronicle to learn more about this development and how Zoomies Parks offer a safe, fun, and social experience for both dogs, and their human companions. 🏉🐕🌳💕
