Happy 4th of July! The Statue of Liberty stands proudly in Upper New York Bay. She is a universal symbol of freedom. She represents the end of slavery in America and the diversity of our people. She also stands resolutely as a tribute to economic opportunity and the character and resilience or our citizens. As an executive recruiter, I’m reminded daily of the that strength diversity and innovation brings. Assembling talented teams for companies coast to coast, I’ve seen firsthand the contributions that unique perspectives and the right blend of strengths can do for a company. Let’s continue to champion diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace – values that not only drive success but also honor the rich tapestry of talents that make our organizations thrive. Wishing you a safe and joyous Independence Day filled with celebration, reflection, and gratitude for our shared journey toward excellence. #Happy4thOfJuly #IndependenceDay #ExecutiveRecruitment

Embracing the spirit of December being Human Rights Month, let's reflect on the fundamental principles that shape our workplaces. In every office, every industry, and every profession, let's champion equality, dignity, and justice for all. As we celebrate Human Rights Month, let's ensure that the rights of every worker are not just acknowledged but upheld. As the great Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, "All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence." Take this time to consider how you can advocate not only for your rights but the rights of everyone in the workplace. "Equity means promoting just and fair inclusion throughout society and creating the conditions in which everyone can participate, prosper, and reach his or her full potential." - Stanford Social Innovation Review Together, let's foster an inclusive workplace where every voice is heard and every right is respected. #HumanRightsMonth #WorkplaceEquality #WorkersRights #equitymatters #stepupforequity

How do you ease back into work after taking time away? Although I felt well rested after my sabbatical, restarting work required more cognitive, emotional, and physical resources. My past working life in academia treated breaks as time to catch up on tasks (seriously, summer was when "work" was actually done), which contributed to persistent burnout. I wanted to carefully approach my new way of working after taking time away so I could restart without feeling overwhelmed or behind. I realized what I wanted was to ease back into work. Ease describes the absence of difficulty or effort and is a core value for how I want to live my life (shout out to Rachel Cargle’s refreshing view of ease as a core value for our lives in A Renaissance of Our Own). I consider ease an intentional process of making something less unpleasant or intense by moving gradually and carefully. Ease aligns with my desire for slowing down and experiencing wellness as I work. To ease back into work, I blocked out a majority of my calendar for the first few weeks of August. I labeled this time my “blooming period” where I take my time reopening and emerging when I am ready to bloom. Holding this space allowed me to catch my breath, ground my work in my personal values, create a work and rest schedule, and ensure my team had enough resources to restart work. I learned of this reopening practice from Christine Ortiz (she/her/ella) at Equity Meets Design! Their organization takes several company wide breaks and practice opening and closing rituals to maximize employee wellness and capacity. I am immensely grateful to have time to reopen and practice slower ways of work. Let’s be clear: ease does not come easy. It is one of many luxuries that is inequitably distributed in our society. Particularly for those whose work makes it possible for us to experience more ease in our daily lives. I recently joined monthly calls with with Black domestic workers from the National Domestic Workers Alliance We Dream in Black community, and am committed to ensuring they experience abundant joy, safety, and well-being in their work. Generating ease for Black domestic workers includes increasing wages, expanding worker protections, and amplifying their voice when we elect officials into office.
