The US Army’s Space and Missile Defence Command (SMDC) is home to a Functional Area (FA) profession number 40, in short The FA - 40. These are soldiers who have served in another part of the army and decide to become space specialists within the army in order to support the army on its missions. They also act as translators and advisers in joint environments (including across government and other military forces) on what land may need or can deliver to the defence of allied space operations. Adam M Bone represented 🇬🇧 Space Command on a panel discussing how space enables the triad of integration between Special Operations, Cyber and Space. This is part of ongoing work to better understand how space supports wider deterrence. Deterrence comes in many forms. One area of deterrence is the ability attribute events to other nations or non-governmental organisations that are illegal or denied as part of misinformation, most recently seen via Maxar Technologies in 🇺🇦

We were required to carry General Powell’s ‘20 Rules for Leaders’ with us at all times in the 82d Airborne Division. I have saved them on my phone and review them regularly as they pertain to the business world as much as they do to the military. Lesson 15 reminds us that we need vital information, but we can’t wait too long to get it or we’ll lose our advantage. There comes a time when you need to make a decision, that you cannot wait any longer. This slide is a good guide to use at that critical moment. Get yourself to the 40-70 range and trust your gut. Then live with the decision!

COL John Dawber, SMDC; COL Joseph Wortham, Army Special Operations Command; and COL John Kunstbeck, Army Cyber Command, met in person on Aug. 17 at the SMDC Headquarters on the Peterson Space Force Base to develop the Army Cyber-Space-SOF Triad. The Army Triad is a partnership between the three Army Service Component Commands to develop, operationalize, and institutionalize the unique convergence of the three capabilities to enable Multi-Domain Operations. The Army Triad seeks to provide the Joint Force with an enhanced ability to see, sense, stimulate, strike, and assess operations to deter and enable defeat of adversaries throughout the competition continuum. Today's in-person engagement emphasized the continued development of Army Triad capabilities and set the stage for future collaboration.
