Calling all Industry Partners! Do you want to get your technologies in front of representatives from across the DoD and USG?   Innovation & Modernization has released a Special Notice for “Unleashing Data at Speed and Scale” on SAM.gov, in coordination with partners including the Army ISR Task Force and the The Joint Staff J2.   We've made applying to this super easy. Just write 100 words (max!) about your technology. That’s fewer words than this LinkedIn post!   If your company is selected, you'll be invited to brief your innovative solution at a two-day Solutions Meeting in McLean, VA.  There, you’ll engage DoD representatives, get a deeper understanding of operational considerations, gather feedback to help inform development, and explore opportunities to collaborate with end-users. Kudos to Ryan Swann for this thoughtful and clear set of recommendations – this is the exact conversation that brought Mobilize VISION to life in 2018. I always like to remind myself (and others) that we did not make this problem up – it was brought to us when the team running the Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center's Innovation Rodeo came to us with the DoD-wide innovation data debacle. Over five years later, we are live with thousands of joint users from every branch – the future of VISION is innovation data that gives leadership exactly what they want, when they need it. Data is the future of innovation and we are proud to be leading that conversation.

Data has evolved into a critical factor of production, playing a pivotal role in both sustaining US competitive advantage and ensuring national security.   The US government is taking steps in the right direction to harness this valuable resource with an initiative announced by the Office of the Secretary of Defense last month, Innovation Outreach Solutions Meeting.   At the event, tech developers will conduct technical presentations and have a confab with Defense Department officials about their potential solutions for “unleashing data.”   This approach signifies a broader recognition that collaboration between the government and private sector is essential for addressing the challenges posed by the increasing centrality of data in modern geopolitics.   Data will define the future. In a move to streamline technology transitions, Heidi Shyu, Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, has inaugurated the Transition Tracking Action Group (TTAG). This advisory body, established March 13, is set to harness advanced data analytics to track how the Department of Defense (DoD) delivers capabilities to the field. The goal of this initiative seeks to ensure the timely and cost-effective delivery of state-of-the-art systems and equipment to military personnel. To do this, the department will seek understand what the primary obstacles to transition are and if the measures it undertakes to improve outcomes are yielding desired effects. https://lnkd.in/eKdX5_iQ

I have so many thoughts and opinions here...here's a few: 1. There are (should be) many types of technology transition, least common of which is direct to use/deployment, most are valid - only this least common one really gets fanfare, maybe that should change 2. You get what you measure and reward, be sure to measure and reward what you want to get - labs in general are not currently rewarded or punished based on transition, maybe that should change 3. Be sure you know what you want, there is a law of gravity which is the inverse relationship between technical risk and transition-ability, if you want more transitions, and you incentivize them, you are going to get less risk (smaller bets) - set the goal appropriate to the organizations 4. Those who build can't sell, those who sell can't build (except for rare unicorns like Dan Patt), if you make builders focus on selling, you're going to end up with a lot of wasted effort - put the right people on the team I respect Ms. Shyu, I'm sure she knows all this.
