Never use an agency and always apply for PR yourself and there are quotas: "'I was able to get a PR in Singapore in less than 2 years’ — Woman shares how she did it". Kudos to her but she fits some of the criteria hence why she was successful. I applied for PR almost as soon as I got to Singapore as I realised pretty early on that both the EP and then PEP that I was on weren't very secure. It took me only a year but that was then, this is now when it's many times harder. Many of my business owning friends have failed many times to get it because they are not fitting into the strict criteria that includes: - we do have a quota system and PR applicants like EPs and citizenship applicants have to fit within this which is 76% ethnically Chinese, 14% ethnically Malay, 9% ethnically Indian and 1% everyone else/Eurasian.... So you can see that it's very hard if you're caucasian to get it. - if you're married to a Singaporean it helps - if you own property here it helps - if you are under 40 it helps - if you run your own company and employ Singaporeans it helps - if you're earning lots of money it helps - if you have a son and include him on your application which means that he will have to do NS (conversely if you don't include him you will be knocked out) The whole voluntary side of things is a red herring. ICA don't care, all that they care about is your economic worth and your integration into our society. PR is also not permanent as this lady tells and I have also heard of many people's PR being cancelled for not paying CPF or shortened to a year. But never ever use one of these agencies that promise you PR but 99% fail and get you the same result as if you did it yourself but you're out several thousand dollars! They usually tell people to appeal and charge them for doing so but the fact is that you are no more likely to get it on appeal than the first time. What do you think? RB Consulting and Maverick Indonesia recently collaborated on a research study that surveyed 82 heads of corporate communications across various industries. Maverick Indonesia has now released a report detailing the state of corporate communication in Indonesia. This report is incredibly insightful for anyone involved in corporate communication and public relations. The report can be downloaded from https://maverick.co.id/ As a research consultant specializing in consumer behavior and market understanding, what stands out to me most about this report is its reinforcement of a crucial point I always emphasize to my clients: always validate your assumptions on your business strategies and plan with your target market. Assumptions about what might work can often be misguided. In this study, we interviewed 82 heads of corporate communication to understand how they view their roles, and to gauge perceptions of what is considered important and valuable by their CEOs. Concurrently, we conducted in-depth interviews with CEOs to learn about their expectations and perceptions of their corporate communication departments. The findings reveal significant gaps in how the roles of corporate communication are perceived, valued, and expected between the heads of corporate communication and their CEOs. This discrepancy within an organization suggests possible larger gaps between internal perceptions and the expectations of external stakeholders. “Mandarin Speaker only” - NO As a recruiter, i am well aware when a specific language is desired due to work. Typically its in the sales side of things. HOWEVER When you have roles in operations and the job posted with the title (Mandarin speaker only), it really defines the culture that its very narrow minded team. WHY? Well cause the job descriptions doesn’t justify the need! why would a mnc need a mandarin speaker in Malaysia? Which does say the business needs is to support mandarin speaking clients? out of all headcounts why they chose to hire a mandarin speaker? well its an easy answer, really This is called a recruitment bias, and no one would address this professionally unless they are in a much leadership position. even then, well no one much got the courage to - truly saddening. What can you do bout this? 1. know your skills - to be honest, if you join an organisation with such bias team, you are listing yourself to misery 2. the silent bias - you see the job poster (typically they are the hiring team or recruitment team, who eventually report to someone who is of a demographic that showed bias). Avoid applying when you know you are in it for long shot. 3. Your profile - List of commercial values of your projects if thats ever you were visible to. 4. Ask opinion of another person of the organisation (if you know them thats great) else you can try to connect with the folks of similar role too. That way, you get insights but mostly, you are networking. 5. be easy on yourself. This world doesnt revolve around language that is specific but corporate does revolve around results.
