It's time for a #DeskBreak. This World Mental Health Day we're launching our new desk break policy encouraging Golin employees to take 15 minute desk breaks to move their mind. We are kick starting the policy with a series of motivational talks and 15 minute desk break activities throughout the day, including group walks, stretching and shadow boxing. It follows our latest work with ASICS and a PSA from Brian Cox that showed your desk can be a danger to your mental health. A global study of 26,000 participants and the ASICS Desk Break experiment with Dr Brendon Stubbs from King’s College London, found that our mental state starts to decline after only two hours of continuous desk-based working. However, just 15 minutes of exercise can help to reverse the effects. The Desk Break experiment showed that taking a daily Desk Break for just one week lowered stress levels by 14.7%, boosted productivity by 33.2% and improved focus by 28.6%. Participants reported feeling 33.3% more relaxed and 28.6% more calm and resilient.
