The transition from spring to summer brings a deluge of CONs, such as Stealthcon, PivotCon, and the upcoming DefCon. Most of these CONs have a decidedly Western-leaning, and you don't often don't see a representation of those from other parts of the world, so when I recently saw Shanghai's GeekCon with sponsorship by many Chinese Tech companies, I was admittedly curious. As I prepare to embark on my very first trip to Las Vegas, for a very exciting event with the majority of the CovertSwarm team, I have been learning a new language - all things DEFCON! As a first timer there can be lot to learn and I haven’t even left the UK yet! From the 3, 2, 1 rule, Linecon, stickerlife to the pac-man rule, there are a variety of terms surrounding this amazing event - thankfully there is a Glossary in the HackerTracker and it also includes the vast array of acronyms, which I didn’t even touch on here! I am hugely excited (like most of the team!) and a little anxious about what to expect (like a few other first timers in the team) but with over half the us attending I am in good company - with many hardened DEFCON-ers amongst us. It’s been a truely great experience watching the collaboration and passion build over the weeks, as we have counted down with anticipation for this event. Sharing hints and tips, packing lists and reminders, everyone at CovertSwarm has come together to help and support each other in the preparation. Many checklists have been ticked off, planning and preparing completed with the final event just ahead, we cannot wait to meet everyone attending DEFCON and share some of the Swarm’s magic. Keep your eyes peeled for us - we will be in our famous orange T’s, with our homemade badges, which a handful of our amazing team have spent months designing, developing and building - a lucky handful will be up for grabs at the event too!
