Even though innovation is deeply woven into the fabric of the #Brainport region, we must actively continue advocating for its importance and sharing how we push boundaries. That’s why we were delighted to host the regional minister of Economics, Talent and Finance from the Province of North Brabant.   The visit focused on innovation, product development, and collaboration. We began with an introduction to Demcon and our ecosystem, showcasing what we do, how we operate, and how we collaborate with other companies in the region. Demcon suster neemt belang in Coraltech B.V Demcon blijft haar activiteiten op het gebied van de circulaire economie en duurzame procestechnologie uitbreiden. Ruim twee jaar geleden werd Suster, een spin-off van de Universiteit Twente op het gebied van chemie en procestechnologie, onderdeel van de Demcon group. Als Demcon suster kon het bedrijf verder groeien met onderzoek en procesontwikkeling voor vergroening van de procesindustrie. Nu heeft Demcon suster een aandeel genomen in Coraltech uit Enschede. Dit bedrijf is opgericht door Erik Verbeek, telt 6 medewerkers en bouwt kleine procesinstallaties, pilotplants en researchopstellingen. De naam is geïnspireerd op koraal als natuurlijke ‘afvanger’ van CO2. Het laat zien dat Coraltech vooral mikt op projecten die bijdragen aan verduurzaming en oplossingen voor het klimaatprobleem. De twee bedrijven werken al jaren samen aan projecten voor duurzame procesontwikkeling. Coraltech bouwt dan vaak pilotplants voor processen die Demcon suster ontwikkelt. De partners doen er zelfs gezamenlijke acquisitie voor. Een voorbeeld van hun samenwerking is de deelname aan het Europese project MMAtwo, gericht op de verwerking van PMMA-afval (polymethylmethacrylaat, oftewel plexiglas). Demcon suster en Coraltech ontwierpen procesapparatuur voor de verwerking en zuivering van het gedepolymeriseerde materiaal, die Coraltech bouwde. Het gaat om een minderheidsdeelneming, verklaren Erik en Bert Heesink, directeur van Demcon suster. “Die draagt bij aan een stabiele, bredere basis voor de realisatie van projecten, terwijl Coraltech verder kan investeren in medewerkers en faciliteiten. We kunnen daardoor samen grotere projecten aannemen en meer impact maken met verduurzaming van de procesindustrie.”

Integrating and connecting 11,270 sub-systems, sensors and components in the 10 compact watertight compartments of this 6/7-meter high-tech vessel.
