🌟 This week's #MeetTheTeam spotlight shines on Sharon Jackson, one of our Global Professional Instructors. 🌟 We asked Sharon, "How does our training make an impact on professional development?" Here’s what she had to say: "As a Trainer of Dementia Capable Care for over 10 years, I have met individuals from many different health care professions; Nursing, Social Services, Therapy Professionals, and Activities professionals to name a few. These individuals range from new to the field to quite experienced. No matter what level of experience, the general response after taking our course is that they have learned something in a way they have not heard before. The general discussion is that Dementia Capable Care is a training which provides a language, philosophy, framework, and practical base of knowledge that can empower staff to provide the person-centered ability-based care they have always wanted to provide. They feel this knowledge is truly for everyone, at all levels of healthcare. As part of my role, I am privileged to work with healthcare partners in their communities as well. It fills my heart, when I am able to see the impact this training can have first-hand. I see healthcare professionals and the direct care partner’s joy and confidence build as they use the approaches and have success. When teams across all professions are all speaking the same language, working from the same core principles, and see individuals living with dementia as people first, the positive outcomes follow. This impact then affects the lives of those living with dementia, their loved ones as well as us - the health care professionals who partner and support in care. Our vision is to create a dementia capable society, will you join us?" 🌐 Ready to take your dementia care skills to the next level? 🌟 #MeetTheTeam Spotlight: Sharon Jackson, one of our Global Professional Instructors 🌟 This week, we asked Sharon, “What are 3 characteristics of a high-quality dementia care professional training program?” Here’s what she had to say: "3 characteristics of a high-quality dementia care include the following: 1️⃣ Evidence Based: It is important that training is built upon evidence-based models versus opinions. This increases the ability to produce repeatable positive results and achieve your goals. 2️⃣ Practical Approaches, Skills, and Tools: Practical approaches, skills and tools, while based upon evidence and theory, should be easy to understand and apply in a realistic way. They should empower ALL team members to understand their impact and role when engaging with those in their care. 3️⃣ Flexible Training Options: Individuals in healthcare are busy and time and resources are scarce, but quality dementia training is vital. NIH states that quality caregiver training can reduce the behavioral and psychological symptoms in dementia as well as improving caregiver well-being, so we must figure out how to provide quality training in a variety of ways. The good news is Dementia Capable Care training options embodies all these characteristics. We are not about a “quick, check the box” training program. However, we know that your time and money is precious and if you are going to invest those resources, we want it to be a training that can affect those you care for in a positive, results driven way. We are passionate about our calling to help individuals with dementia to thrive, and we know our program can help. If this aligns with your mission and goals – we would love to partner with you." Thank you, Sharon, for your dedication to building dementia capable teams! 💙 Make the choice to invest today and #JoinTheJourney towards building a Dementia Capable Society: https://bit.ly/47qWV25 #DementiaCare #QualityCare #ProfessionalTraining #DementiaEducation

Translating knowledge into practice. How often does it actually happen? How much education and resources do we have available to us? A lot. How much education in health and aged care is related to teaching us skills to help us be able to provide better and safe care? You would think a fair bit given we are physically having to touch the people we are providing care for. So what do you think translates better into practice- just the theory learnt, a mix of theory and practical skills or just the practical skills? Think about the last training/education that you completed. What was your key takeaway learning from it? What skills have you put into practice since attending it? Let me know below. Our #positiveapproachtocare dementia education programs are practical, skills based training where the learnings can and are translated straight into practice. If you provide care for people living with dementia, then you need the knowledge and the skills to be able to do so. To be a part of our final PAC programs in 2024, check out the links in the comments. #dementia #dementiaeducation #training #practicaltraining #skills

Lets create 100,000 jobs together | Non-profit is the way | CEO/Founder of Oneness Education, Community & Research Foundation I Serial Entrepreneur & Innovator | Healthcare & Business Faculty
Smiling and celebrating are powerful human actions that serve deep psychological and social purposes. Smiling is often a natural response to positive emotions, but it's also a universal signal of friendliness, warmth, and approachability. It fosters connection and encourages social bonding, making interactions smoother and more harmonious. Celebrations, on the other hand, serve as rituals that bring people together to recognize achievements, milestones, and shared values, creating a sense of belonging and collective joy. In education, these positive expressions—smiling and celebrating—build a sense of community. They help students acknowledge each other's struggles, triumphs, and differences, fostering mutual respect and understanding. When classmates learn together, they also learn from each other's diverse perspectives and life experiences. This shared journey toward knowledge brings people closer, dissolving barriers of inequality and promoting empathy. Education, at its best, goes beyond the transfer of knowledge; it nurtures compassion, equity, and respect for others. It teaches us to celebrate our differences and support one another, making us better humans who are more attuned to each other's needs. By developing not only our intellect but also our character, education creates environments where everyone can thrive, fostering a more inclusive and respectful society. As Internationally Educated Healthcare Professionals (IEHPs), our passion to serve the community still runs deep. We dedicate ourselves to the well-being of others, striving to absorb their pain, sadness, and suffering while doing everything in our power to bring positivity and hope into their lives. This calling is not just a profession but a profound commitment to making a meaningful difference. The training we undergo—learning about patient- and family-centered care, ethical principles, and holistic treatment approaches—further shapes your capacity to be compassionate and empathetic. We understand that healthcare is not just about treating illness but about supporting the person as a whole, valuing their experiences, emotions, and the relationships we hold dear. This connection goes beyond medical care, reaching into the core of human dignity and respect. By applying these principles, IEHPs contribute not only as skilled professionals but as agents of healing in the truest sense. We embody resilience and empathy, and your efforts to serve the community inspire those around us, creating ripple effects of well-being that extend beyond individual patients. Our commitment to this calling underscores the importance of humanity in healthcare, making it a profession that not only saves lives but uplifts and empowers the very essence of the community. #IEHPStrong #HealthcareWithHeart #CommunityCare #PatientCenteredCare #EmpathyInAction #EthicalHealthcare #ServeWithCompassion #HealingTogether #PositiveImpact #CompassionateCare

Board Certified in Swallowing, Founder/CEO of the MedSLP Collective and MedSLP Education, Host of the Swallow Your Pride Podcaster, Best-Selling Author of “So You’re Having Trouble Swallowing,” PhD student
As a Med SLP for 15 years, I've seen the field evolve and expand in so many ways. But if I’m being honest, so many of my clinical peers and even SLP graduate students don’t have a full grasp of what all a #MedSLP does! So let’s get into it 👇👇👇 Almost 40% of SLPs work in healthcare settings, including hospitals, outpatient facilities, and residential care facilities. About 20% are in private practice, which is where a huge level of autonomy and flexibility comes in. But what exactly does a day in the life of a Med SLP look like?? Well, it varies greatly depending on the setting, patient acuity, and job description. Nonetheless, ALL of our days are fast-paced and dynamic, with each patient case presenting new ways for innovation and growth as an SLP. We serve patients across the lifespan, from premature infants in the NICU to individuals in end-of-life hospice care. And even though we aren’t *technically* counselors, counseling plays a crucial role in our job – helping patients and families navigate life-altering conditions and treatments. BUT did you know that Med SLPs can be found in the operating room or the burn unit?? Yeah, me neither, until I started working in the hospital. 🤷🏼♀️ Here’s the deal, there's no one-size-fits-all approach to being a Med SLP. Whether you prefer acute care or private practice, specializing or remaining a generalist, the choice is yours. It's all about finding where you can make the greatest impact and feel fulfilled in your career! And if you haven’t found that special spot in this field that just feels right for you – don’t sweat it. Oftentimes, it takes YEARS to find what we truly love (heck, it might even change a few times!) 💛 If you think you might need some outside perspective on navigating your career and, I have EXCITING news! This week & ONLY this week, the Collective is OPEN for enrollment! Comment “COLLECTIVE” & I’ll send you some info on how to get enrolled so you can get equipped with the tools, resources, and community you need to elevate your clinical career! #medslp #slp #slpmentorship

📸 Flashback to 2022: My first presentation at the 37th Annual Virginia School Nurse Association Conference! ✨ It was an incredible experience to share my passion with 200+ fellow healthcare professionals and connect with school nurses from across the state. This event was a game-changer for me. It gave me the confidence to start submitting abstracts to other conferences, speak on topics I cared deeply about, and forge valuable connections that led to opportunities for collaboration and growth. Since then, I've had the privilege of being invited to speak on 3 panels, sharing my expertise with even larger audiences. And this year, I presented at the ISPN conference in April and will be speaking at the upcoming APNA conference in October! Key Takeaway: Put Yourself Out There! As PMHNPs, we often get so caught up in our clinical work that we forget the importance of networking. But building relationships with colleagues, potential clients, and community partners is key for expanding our reach and impact. Networking can lead to: 🤝 Referrals: Building relationships with other healthcare providers can lead to valuable referrals for your practice. 🎤 Speaking Opportunities: Sharing your expertise at conferences and workshops establishes you as a thought leader in your field. 💡 Collaboration: Connecting with like-minded professionals can spark new ideas and lead to exciting partnerships. Don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone and put yourself out there! You never know what amazing opportunities might arise from a single connection. #pmhnp #privatepractice #networking #community #growth #publicspeaking #coaching #collaboration #empowerment #mentalhealth
