Yesterday, I had the privilege of presenting at the National Charter Schools Conference alongside my colleagues from Democracy Prep Public Schools: Beatrix Jackson, Francis Frimpong Jr. , and Chelsey Palmer Our session, titled "Ballots and Beyond: Navigating the 2024 Election in the Classroom," offered resources and guiding principles to help educators discuss the upcoming election with their students. A key takeaway from our session was that while educators are eager to bring election discussions into their classrooms, they are also concerned about navigating the current polarized climate and potential backlash from parents. With proactive planning and thoughtful & intentional execution, we all can successfully navigate the complexities of our current political reality with students. It’s demanding work, but it must be done. It was inspiring to see the dedication and commitment of so many educators to fostering informed and engaged students despite these challenges.
