#LetTheTruthBeTold ... @Aimed2PurposeRadioShow ... In this episode, I share my thoughts and comments about the 2024 Presidential Debate. I watched the entire debate, and it was unimpressive for me. So, what's next? Will there be another debate, or will we just have to wait to see who becomes the next president? That's the big question right now. Whoever becomes president, I really don't see much that will be done from a Black economic perspective. This is why as Black people, we must stop depending on government crumbs and come together and build together. That is our survival strategy, investing in ourselves and our children. We need to follow in the footsteps of Ms. Fannie Lou Hamer and start our own political party, which will benefit our Black communities. #presidentialdebate2024 ... #kamalaharris ... #donaldtrump ... #election2024 ... #blackeconomicpower ... #blackunityforblackeconomy ... #blackfamilies ... #blackfamily ... #powernomics ... #b1 ... #politics ... #democraticparty ... #republicanparty ... #congressionalblackcaucus ... #louisehicks ... #aimed2purpose

Establishing racial justice within institutions and civil society is how we protect democracy in the 21st century. The democratic future we want requires that we redesign systems and practices now.
➡ ➡ Check out this recent conversation between Chief Network Weaver Julia Roig and Director for Race & Democracy Jarvis Williams as they reflect on the decision to create a new role and portfolio at Horizons to link the efforts of democracy promotion/protection/renewal and racial justice, and why we see the interconnections as essential to forging a path forward to our shared future as a country. 🤔 If you'd like to consult some other resources on this topic, you can also find a curated list of materials on our website: https://lnkd.in/et4fNb6R https://lnkd.in/e5nVKagA

In today's political climate, it is easy to focus on what divides us, viewing the country through an "us versus them" lens. But every day, local leaders and ordinary citizens across the country are working to build a stronger civic culture and mutually supportive communities. Today, my team at the American Academy of Arts & Sciences released "Habits of the Heart and Mind: How to Fortify Civic Culture," a powerful new publication that reminds us America is united by people who believe in its ideals and who balance their self-interest with the well-being of their community and country. The report is a call to action - for each of us to find ways to drive healthy conversations with neighbors, embrace participation in civic life, and invest in what makes us a strong, diverse nation. Happy #ListenFirst Friday! Recently, RepresentUs created a video on a question that can sometimes get people pretty fired up: "Is the United States a Democracy or a Republic?" When you scroll through social media comment feeds or raise this question to different audiences, you can see that some people feel incredibly passionately about the topic. Both terms heavily hinge on the fundamental principle of representation, and RepresentUs does a fantastic job of laying out what both terms mean and how the answer to that burning question is....yes. In addition to learning more about these systems of government, we also see this video as a way to understand not only about these forms of government, but why people may refer to these terms in different ways. This type of listening is a good analogy for the type of curiosity we should use when approaching other disagreements. By taking the time to listen to our neighbors instead of getting locked into unproductive debate and shutting down, we open new opportunities for relationships and deepen our bonds as a society. When our Founding Fathers gathered together for the Constitutional Convention to write our founding documents, they didn’t all agree. They fought. They argued. They debated…and they listened. After months of discussing, debating, and working together, they created something beautiful, something bigger than themselves. They created a system that still stands more than 230 years later. In this week of July 4th, when it can feel like our democratic republic is backsliding and friendships are fracturing along party lines, we are faced with a crisis of patriotism. But the answer isn't about leaning more into our ideological bubbles or cutting those off with whom we disagree. It is about listening. Surrounding yourselves with people from different perspectives and backgrounds and talking together and listening together can and does make a difference. It’s about finding moments of unity together, and talking about what it really means to have a society with liberty and justice for all. It’s about coming together as citizens and just being together. Listening is patriotism at its finest
