⚖️ Every child should have the right to apply to any public school. But that's not happening right now. Within our current system, too many children are being denied equal access to a quality education simply because they live on the ‘wrong’ side of an arbitrary line. Families are left nearly legally powerless to challenge the school’s decision. Here’s how we can change that: If a public school denies a child enrollment, it should provide the family with a formal letter with its reasoning. Families should have the right to appeal the denial to a neutral 3rd party. Want to learn more about how we can ensure families have equal access to the public schools that work best for them? With so much at stake, it's important to start considering how the outcome of the election could shape the future of our schools. One major issue that could be on the table is funding for education. Depending on who is elected, there could be changes to the amount of money allocated to schools, which could potentially impact class sizes, teacher salaries, and access to resources for students. Another key issue is education policy. Different candidates may have varying stances on things like standardized testing, curriculum requirements, and school choice. It's important to stay informed and consider how these policies could affect your child's learning experience. So, what can you do to prepare for the 2024 election and its potential impact on your child's education? Start by staying informed about the candidates' positions on education. Attend local forums, read up on their platforms, and ask questions about their plans for schools. You can also get involved with your child's school community. Join the PTA, attend school board meetings, and advocate for policies that support your child's education. By being proactive and engaged, you can help shape the future of education for your children. Ultimately, the 2024 election could have a big impact on the way our schools operate. By staying informed and getting involved, parents can help ensure that their children have the best possible education moving forward. It's important for us to all do our part to make sure our kids have a bright future. #educationelection #futureofschools #2024election #educationpolicy #schoolfunding #parentadvocate #studentresources #k12education #getinvolved #voteforourkids

Baltimore City Public Schools is the only exception to Maryland's system of county-based school districts. It's carved right out of the middle of Baltimore County Public Schools. In school year 19-20, City Schools had about 1.25x the dollars per pupil as Baltimore County Public Schools, but about 3x the poverty rate. Ask any math teacher (or edu researcher) - those numbers don't add up. We stand with NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. and Alaizah Koorji- Maryland must provide Baltimore City Schools students the funding they deserve. We should also rethink the way district lines concentrate poverty in the first place - in Baltimore and in districts around the country.
For generations of Baltimore City Public Schools children, obtaining an adequate education remains out of reach, despite the Maryland Constitution’s guarantee that each student has a right to a “thorough and efficient” public education. The funding deficit exacerbates other disparities that make it harder for BCPS students of color to learn. Our latest original content dives into the history of underfunding and demands that state leaders ensure these schools are properly funded so all students can thrive. https://lnkd.in/ebvhbsTg
