Education Reform Now (ERN) is a non-partisan, nonprofit think tank and advocacy organization that promotes increased resources and innovative reforms in K-16 public education, particularly for students of color and students from low-income families. Our research and policy proposals help drive the discussion on education reform on Capitol Hill and in state houses across the country. We seek innovative change and forward progress in public education—at the federal, state, and local level—developing and advocating for innovative, mutually reinforcing policies in elementary, secondary and post-secondary education.

Today, New Orleans' 2024 cohort of Urban Leaders Fellows delivered their final presentations and policy recommendations to stakeholders at the Orleans Parish School Board headquarters. Over the past seven weeks, my colleagues and I have learned a ton about policy, local politics and levers of change. We are incredibly grateful to have had this opportunity to put our policy analyst hats on to learn by doing this summer, and even more grateful for the guidance of our regional directors, Jeremy Davis and Justin McCorkle, and for support from local elected officials Ethan Ashley and Royce Duplessis. I also want to thank Terrence Lockett, Executive Director of Education Reform Now-LA and DFER-LA, for sponsoring my fellowship and for giving me an opportunity to dip my toes into the world of think tanks and political nonprofits in the education sector. Last but not least, I want to shout out my amazing policy workgroup teammates Melinda and Michelle. We were a real powerhouse! The Urban Leaders Fellowship has left me feeling well prepared to hit the ground running as I begin my Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy this fall. I highly recommend the fellowship to others interested in gaining real world policy experience, not only in education, but in any field!
