I was asked and this was my response………
During this Women’s History Month I was invited to sit on a panel addressing business leaders and ambitious young women. This was one of the questions I was asked.
Now, my mind always goes to the funny side of things first so, my initial thought was, “Don’t wear high heels!” Believe me, that’s good advice, but alas, not the only important recommendation.
Instead, I shared one of the biggest detriments to success and an important lesson that no one tells you (but you need to know!)
#1 The biggest detriment:
If I had to do it over again, I wouldn’t have wasted my time and energy worrying about what others thought about me, or of fitting in. I think we’ve all worried about this at one time or another. Lots of adults still fear being judged by others.
This is why it’s common to feel resistance to opportunities that bring up issues about acceptance or rejection. But if we want to thrive, if we want to enjoy everything we are capable of, this is exactly what we SHOULD embrace.
Thankfully, I’ve since learned to squash those fears and channel my energy to more productive pursuits.
#2 The lesson about life that everyone needs to hear:
I’ve learned that EVERYONE is special. EVERYONE.
And on one is more special than anyone else.
⭐ We have our own talents, points of view, and unique experiences.
⭐ We come in different packages.
⭐ And we all have gifts to bring to the world.
Our job is to discover and nurture those gifts.
In fact, we best serve ourselves and the world by
✅ letting go of what others think,
✅ embracing our own path,
✅ and celebrating the unique characteristics that make us special.
