Self-doubt made me question my abilities and worth. I hadn’t considered my strengths or how to effectively use mentors and sponsors. I received feedback I needed to develop executive presence and strategic skills. Balancing work, health, and the demands of being a mother to four, I often felt overwhelmed. I struggled with authenticity in the workplace and felt isolated in my challenges. I now know that many people feel the exact same way. 💼 Grown Woman Founder Reflections: Lessons from Nzinga “Zing” Shaw & Tara Turk-Haynes at RecFest USA 💼 They say never meet your heroes, but I don’t agree—I was lucky to spend time with mine at RecFestUSA last week. I had the opportunity to sit in on a session led by two women I’ve admired for years—Zing Shaw, who I’ve long looked up to, and Tara Turk-Haynes, my dear friend and fellow Capricorn sister. These powerhouse leaders spoke truth to power about what it truly takes to make inclusion real in our organizations. 💪🏽 As a Grown Woman Founder, these moments remind me why we keep pushing, learning, and evolving. ✨ Zing, holding Anessa Fike’s book (a powerful moment of women supporting women), reminded us that “You can’t just talk the talk. The video and audio need to be aligned.” 🎤 In my own leadership journey, this resonates deeply—actions speak louder than words. Tara’s message about the personal toll DEI work can take hit close to home. “You’ll burn out if you’re carrying more than everyone else.” 🔥 Protecting your energy as a leader is essential—something I’ve learned through my own Grown Woman Life journey. 🌱 A huge shoutout to Torin Ellis and Jamie Leonard for cultivating this conversation and creating the space for us to be in community and learn from each other. 🤝 Conversations like this are what keep our eye on the humanity practices that are so key and critical to business. 🔄 Here’s to the power of growth, accountability, and standing tall in my Grown Woman Founder Life. 👑 💬 Which quote resonates most with you?

I was asked and this was my response……… During this Women’s History Month I was invited to sit on a panel addressing business leaders and ambitious young women. This was one of the questions I was asked. Now, my mind always goes to the funny side of things first so, my initial thought was, “Don’t wear high heels!” Believe me, that’s good advice, but alas, not the only important recommendation.   Instead, I shared one of the biggest detriments to success and an important lesson that no one tells you (but you need to know!)   #1 The biggest detriment:  If I had to do it over again, I wouldn’t have wasted my time and energy worrying about what others thought about me, or of fitting in. I think we’ve all worried about this at one time or another. Lots of adults still fear being judged by others.  This is why it’s common to feel resistance to opportunities that bring up issues about acceptance or rejection. But if we want to thrive, if we want to enjoy everything we are capable of, this is exactly what we SHOULD embrace.  Thankfully, I’ve since learned to squash those fears and channel my energy to more productive pursuits.   #2 The lesson about life that everyone needs to hear: I’ve learned that EVERYONE is special. EVERYONE. And on one is more special than anyone else.     ⭐ We have our own talents, points of view, and unique experiences.   ⭐ We come in different packages.   ⭐ And we all have gifts to bring to the world.   Our job is to discover and nurture those gifts.   In fact, we best serve ourselves and the world by ✅ letting go of what others think, ✅ embracing our own path, ✅ and celebrating the unique characteristics that make us special.   What are YOUR thoughts?
