Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom’s Post

"I am determined that we build the transport infrastructure to drive economic growth and opportunity in every part of the country, and to deliver value for money for taxpayers. That ambition requires a fundamental reset to how we approach capital projects – with public trust, industry confidence and government integrity at its heart.”   Read Transport Secretary Louise Haigh's full response to the Chancellor’s statement on the state of our public finances and what it means for the delivery of new transport infrastructure 👇

HM Government needs also to reform taxi and private hire vehicle licensing by introducing a national regime with national standards delivered by local authorities. In 2024 its madness that we have 263 licensing authorities (TFL and local authorities outside London) seeking to regulate the trade to promote public safety in 263 different ways! Public safety and licensing standards should not vary from area to area - we all deserve the same standards and protections. Show your support for this call for HM Government and the DFT to finally introduce legislative reforms by liking this post.

Thank you for sharing this important message. As we focus on building transport infrastructure to drive growth and opportunity, it’s crucial that we also modernize the Blue Badge Scheme. With 2.6 million disabled motorists relying on it, there is an urgent need to improve the scheme to make it fairer, more accessible, and less vulnerable to abuse. These improvements will not only support disabled drivers but also enhance public trust in how our transport systems are designed and operated. The disabled community is hoping for reforms that reflect their needs and ensure their equal participation in society.

Turnaround on this review is key. The massive delays in implementing transport infrastructure in the UK will have repercussions for decades to come. The previous government has much to answer for on the present situation but the new Government will need to commit to outcomes beyond the current Parliament. Just guaranteeing a subset of ‘no regrets’ projects would be a start.

A decision on how the Govnmt wants English LAs to deal with parking on footways is well overdue. Cheaper to deal with than building bypasses, and will help with mobility to shops, etc.

The Government have been given a clear mandate for change, review, budget, plan, do review. Just get the ball rolling, let the Industry work with you for the benefit of the National. To us, Sustainable is not a bus word

I would appreciate a timeline for the review and subsequent implementation. In the spirit of transparency, will you disclose the budget allocated to the external expertise engaged to investigate the mismanagement of previous budgets?
