🌍💡 With a revolutionary approach, the HERCCULES project aims to transform carbon capture technologies, significantly reducing #CO2 emissions from hard-to-abate sectors.   The goal? To make a real viable CO2 capture, utilization, and storage supply chain in Mediterranean Europe, proving that a greener future in heavy industries is possible. This isn't just technological progress; it's about setting a new standard of environmental responsibility for the whole sector. Last week, the #SMHYLES kicked off! The project is funded through the Horizon Europe programme and it is coordinated by FBK-SE | The Centre for Sustainable Energy | Bruno Kessler Foundation 💫 🔋 #SMHYLES targets the design, development and demonstration of novel Hybrid Energy Storage Systems (#HESS) at an industrial scale. It combines the capabilities of low-CRM and aqueous ESS including #VRFB, salt #batteries and aqueous #supercapacitors. 🔧 The #project will consist in developing two novel HESSs that will be implemented in 2 demonstrators in Portugal (in Maia and Graciosa Island) and in the validation of HESS retrofitting and #RFB on-demand expansion, demonstrated in Germany (Pfinztal).💻Novel #digital tools will be developed to optimise HESS #design and real-time management. ♻ HESS #sustainability is taken into account by integrating #LCA from the design phase. A crucial point made by Erno is that an investor's appetite for risk can significantly influence the project timeline. But here's the clincher: to compress timelines, tasks related to permitting, design, and construction can be executed concurrently. However, this brings a challenge as it may lead to inefficiencies and cost increases due to incomplete initial data. The solution? A thorough risk assessment and a reality-based schedule. This approach ensures clear objectives for the investment and prioritizes the right tasks, setting the project up for success. SoFiN Project empowers collaboration with other EU-funded projects to explore possibilities of impactful synergies addressing parallel dimensions of research and innovation.  Two amazing Photonics-based projects walking side by side, with even though different innovative technologies being developed for different applications and yet both aiming towards challenging the norm in quality monitoring. One focused on three case studies separately for milk, fuel and hydrogen quality monitoring under BROMEDIR project while SoFiN Project is looking at critical infrastructure monitoring with focus on high-voltage powerlines, telecommunications and water supply network monitoring. Our project coordinator CyRIC | Cyprus Research & Innovation Center Ltd, jointly featured SoFiN and BROMEDIR at Web Summit 2023, an event with more than 70K attendees from 153 countries, with companies redefining the tech industry, start-ups, innovative thinkers, investors, industry experts from around the world, all had the opportunity to hear more about two Horizon Europe projects pushing back knowledge frontiers with their leading consortiums. You will oftentimes hear about CCRI Projects, but what are they exactly? 🤔 They are research and innovation projects, funded by the EU under Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe. They generate innovative knowledge, create skills and demonstrate systemic solutions at local and regional level.
