#Peopleofinterior - I love working to conserve the threatened and endangered critters I love! What an amazing life I have to be able to get to know such rare creatures and do my part in helping our environment. It is a dream to do something I am so passionate about as a career. I love being able to collaborate with a team of people with the same passion and goals. Being able to do research to answer big questions that help further our goals is so interesting and engaging. Contributing to our conservation of resources is so fulfilling to me, and my job is mentally, physically, and emotionally stimulating for me. I feel like I am exactly where I am meant to be. There truly is no better career out there for me. I love my critters! I am happy to be able to work with accommodations that allow me to be a productive employee with disabilities. Although there is still much work to do to create a safe and healthy environment for people with disabilities in the workplace, I am privileged to work with a supportive team and supervisor. Being able to do a job that includes plenty of outdoor time and time surrounded by nature really helps my mental health and gives me a much better work-life balance. I found a place where I am accepted and can be productive and happy. Desiree Moore is Fish Biologist at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). She works at the Ash Meadows Fish Conservation Facility in Amargosa Valley, Nevada. Desiree graduated from Oklahoma State University. #NDEAM

#Peopleofinterior - I was born in Manizales, Colombia, which is in the coffee growing region of the country. My cultural traditions, my educational and professional trajectory, as well as my lived experiences as a Latina in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) field inform my philosophy of life to support efforts that prioritize equity, inclusion, and accessibility for the historically under-resourced and underrepresented. At the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), I work on topics related to socio-economic factors in stakeholder decision-making within the context of water resource management and water-related hazards. Diana L. Restrepo-Osorio is Geographer and Social Scientist at the Water Resources Mission Area at USGS in Lawrence, Kansas. Diana has a bachelor’s degree in molecular biosciences with a minor in sociology, a Masters in Latin American studies focusing on water management, and a PhD in Geography from the University of Kansas. #hispanicheritagemonth

#PeopleofInterior - I love being a Safety Specialist at the U.S. Department of the Interior because of the opportunity to make a tangible difference in people’s lives. Knowing that my work helps prevent accidents, ensures compliance with safety regulations, and contributes to a healthier work environment is deeply fulfilling. I also enjoy the variety and challenges that come with the job. Each day can present new scenarios, whether addressing a unique safety concern, updating protocols, or conducting training sessions. I also get to travel a lot, visiting our field offices. I love connecting with my colleagues at their workplace, building relationships and fostering a culture of safety where everyone feels empowered to contribute is a significant aspect of the role. Seeing employees become more aware and proactive about their safety and that of their colleagues is incredibly gratifying. It’s all about creating a safe and supportive environment where everyone can thrive. Jimmy Lopez-Beniquez is a Safety & Occupational Health Specialist at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) in Sacramento, California.
