British Columbia's EV sector is making significant strides despite the federal focus on Ontario and Quebec for major investments. While BC may not have the extensive auto manufacturing ecosystem of its eastern counterparts, it is carving out a niche in electric buses, trucks, and motorcycles. For Damon - while our assembly is in California, the design and innovation is located in BC, Canada. This decision to assemble in California allows us to leverage it's EV talent pool and proximity to a substantial market — 25% of the US motorcycle market is in California. Sustainable Technology, Transport Decarbonization, New Energy, Renewable Energy & Clean Infrastructure
You may have heard at the end of last week! 🌟 General Motors & EVgo Expand Charging Partnership in the USA General Motors and EVgo have just announced a groundbreaking expansion of their electric vehicle charging infrastructure across the United States. This new collaboration is set to establish numerous charging parks, featuring up to 20 charging stations each, from coast to coast in states like Arizona, California, and New York. The push for more accessible charging stations is a significant step towards a more sustainable future for electric mobility. 🚗🔋 Most of the new charging stations will employ EVgo's innovative prefabrication approach, drastically reducing construction time and allowing for easy future expansions. Additionally, these charging parks will be illuminated, monitored by cameras, and even include charging bays for caravans. This ensures convenience and safety for all EV drivers, prioritising both customer satisfaction and infrastructure resilience. This colossal project will not stop at the charging parks. GM and EVgo are also targeting metropolitan hubs with plans to build 2,850 high-powered charging points to deliver premium experiences for EV drivers. Both companies celebrated the opening of the 1,000th fast-charging point last August and are set to surpass 2,000 points by the end of this year. This partnership is a testament to their commitment to improving EV infrastructure and sustaining the growth of the electric mobility sector. What are your thoughts on this new development? EV infrastructure hasn’t reached Rectory Lane yet. My neighbour has DIYed a cable from his apartment – above and across two gardens – to reach his car. (It’s like a zip wire.) London and Coventry seem to be leading the way in the deployment of charging points, but other cities, towns and little lanes still have a long way to go. Late last year it was widely reported that James Taylor, managing director at Vauxhall Motors Ltd, believed we needed to “pick up the pace” here in the UK, so that people outside these regions (like my neighbour) don’t get left behind. This week we learned that Vauxhall is set to make electric vans at its factory in Luton from 2025, helping to secure the future of 1,500 UK jobs at the plant. A relief for Luton, the UK car industry and little lungs. I doubt that without the infrastructure commitment we’re finally seeing, that this would have happened. Do you? There’s still a long way to go, but it’s getting easier to choose electric. How is your local authority doing? I look forward to more charging points and less ominous cables (I mean, is it even safe..?) #electricvehicles #supplychain #automotive #vauxhall #delivery #lastmile

News! The Department of Transportation is fueling the electric vehicle (EV) revolution with a whopping $623 million in grants. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg's words ring true. He says, 'We're at a moment now where the electric vehicle revolution isn't coming, it is very much here.' And he's absolutely right! The grants are set to support 47 projects across 22 states and Puerto Rico. The focus? Rural areas and underserved communities. This is more than just a technological shift. What's more, we're not just talking about a few charging ports here and there. The funding will see the construction of approximately 7,500 EV charging ports. That's 7,500 opportunities to recharge, to keep moving forward, and to embrace the future of transportation. With a goal of installing 500,000 chargers nationwide by 2030, it's clear that the pace of progress is accelerating. Yes, EV sales have been slower than expected, with high vehicle prices and poor charging infrastructure as stumbling blocks. But this new influx of funding is a clear signal that these issues are being addressed head-on. A moment for optimism and celebration. So, here's to embracing the EV revolution and give the people what they want! #EV #Renewable # Affila

Manheim recently submitted its recommendation to the Australian Federal Government's Parliamentary Inquiry into the electric vehicle transition. In order to bring a different perspective to the core issues, we focused firmly on those topics most in our wheelhouse, namely the emerging markets around second-hand EVs and battery salvage. Issues such as resale value and battery state-of-health checks are critical to our forward planning, as they will have a role to play in EV asset disposal. Additionally, Manheim Salvage works with insurers to sell damaged and written-off vehicles – including EVs. Therefore we are invested in helping create best-practise solutions for the safe handling of damaged EVs, as well as battery refurbishment and potentially recycling. Key topics for Manheim: ⚡ Establishing a vibrant second-hand EV market. ⚡ Creating transparency of used EV battery state-of-health. ⚡ Procedures for the safe storage and sale of damaged EVs. ⚡ Second-life batteries; supporting repair, refurbishment, and recycling. Cox Automotive Australia and Manheim appreciates the opportunity to contribute to this inquiry into the transition to electric vehicles in the Australian market.
