Last night, I meet some incredible female banking professionals; while listening to insightful outputs from a report commissioned by Women in Banking and Finance - UK through their Accelerating Change Together (ACT) programme hosted at the London Mastercard office, with an opening keynote from #wibf president & CEO . "The Inclusive Individual," a report presented by Dr Grace Lordan from The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) who moderated a lively discussion panel. According to a recent Forbes article, women-owned businesses represent over 39% of all American businesses, employing 12.2 million workers, and generating $2.7 trillion in revenue. The number of women-owned businesses increased at nearly double the rate of those with male ownership between 2019 - 2023 with the rate of growth increasing 4.5 times. 🙌 Yet, in the American financial sector as a whole, only 10% of senior positions are filled by females. However, at PremierBank, over 80% of our employees are women, with more than half of our banking leaders being women. Why does this matter? 🤔 Women in key decision-making finance roles understand firsthand the unique challenges women face. Statistics in the industry as a whole demonstrate that a bias exists for female entrepreneurs seeking funding for their businesses. At our bank and other locally-owned community banks just like us, we're doing our part to ensure women have equal opportunity when it comes to accessing credit. It starts with employing female bankers who are empowered to make a difference.
