🗣️ “What are you doing for international women’s day” ? I am always conflicted with this question, as for me working with issues that pertain to equality of the genders isn’t just a “month-long” initiative or specified to a “day”. I don’t feel a need to call myself a “feminist” in my social profiles, as my actions for the last 5 years have been focused on leveling the professional field for women in the legal & finance sectors. I’ve been there - as the youngest female private banker at a global bank. I’ve also been there as the only “person of color” in rooms almost designed to make one feel out of place. Diversity & inclusion wasn’t actively implemented during my tenure in banking and the term “diversity hire” was the term used to describe someone like myself - as an insult. It wasn’t until this “diversity hire” outperformed her colleagues by 150% in client investment portfolios that the term disappeared in the abyss. How did I do that? How to ensure better positioning for women in fintech? 💸 Women excel at running businesses. However, opaque promotion policies and other significant obstacles are a barrier, as indicated by as much as 25% of them ⚠️ It's worth remembering that only 10.1% of European fintechs have a female co-founder. This has to stop! Women deserve equal opportunities, so every team should ensure that they constitute a significant portion - at least 50%. Special recruitment interviews or collaboration with equality-focused foundations can help with this 🍀 Transparent communication regarding pay and career paths is also invaluable here 💸 But is diversity in fintech... profitable?
