JustJobs Network is one of the few applied research institutes that look at global policies, transformations and issues from a #labourmarket lens – bringing evidence-based outlook to designing policies for inclusive labour markets around the world. Today, our work was cited in a story by #BusinessStandard in its review of various policies of the Government of Karnataka, India. Our research team at the #CentreforGenderAnalysis is working to understand the impact of Karnataka state’s scheme on fare free bus rides for women on their access to work opportunities and economic participation. In India, 52% of women want a paid job. But only 19% of women have a paid job, while 81% are outside of the labour force in India. These data from https://lnkd.in/eVGSNpKB We work toward a situation where nursery childcare, supportive unpaid childcare by household men, and parttime work close to home enable more Indian women to do paid work. Of course many do that paid work in the informal sector, and the numbers might not be right. But, the informal sector pay is not as good as in a formal job. Formal-sector jobs are also more popular there. Furthermore the hours and dates are unpredictable in informal-sector and cottage-industry work at home. Whereas, organised employers using women's work gives a structure to weekly lives, helps enable family to share unpaid tasks at home, and is a more rational way to organise production. Services that use computers or internet are also dominated by men in India, rather than women. This situation has grown over a 15-year period while the 'call-centre industry' and 'cybercity' phenomena grew. Jobs were created. But where was the job-creation suited to women?

ELECTRIC RICKSHAW IN WOMAN EMPOWERMENT: Despite making up over half of the global population, women nevertheless participate in society at a far lower rate than men do. Even in India, a nation that values a culture of strong female heroes and has a constitution that upholds women's equality, there is a significant disparity in the number of women employed as entrepreneurs. To empower women, we at Erode began developing electric rickshaw in woman empowerment. According to statistics, over 50% of women in our nation are choosing not to pursue higher occupations because they find the commute to and from work to be difficult. In the city today, we witness women being crushed while riding in shared cars to travel to work from bus stops and metro stations. In addition to last-mile connectivity, other difficulties include traffic safety and women's safety. Additionally, not many people are aware of the resources that are available, such as She-taxis, etc. Fewer women than their male counterparts are able to obtain a driver's license, drive, or, even if they do, choose not to work in this field, but now electric rickshaw in woman empowerment is one of the hot cake of the environment.  Just 1% of workers in the mobility and transport sector are women, despite the fact that employability has multiplied due to the growth of delivery services, taxi services, and other related businesses. Women empowerment... Women's active participation in labour force... Government"s skilling scheme .... Skilling India scheme is changing people life continuously. The better part of the scheme is women's active participation in labour force. As per the GOI data, Government's flagship skilling scheme has trained 13.7 mn people with a 22% overall placement rate since start of the scheme in 2015 . Great to see , Women's participation in labor force has increased continuously between 2018 to 2023 & their share in formal jobs has also increased between the same period. There's been a lot of talk this week about the gender pay gap, so a candidate testimonial like this is extremely timely and even more rewarding for me. Aside from the gender pay gap topic, there are significant issues with women securing jobs and returning to work after maternity leave, like Sumathi.
