Yesterday, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s Grid Deployment Office announced $2.2 billion in awards under the Grid Innovation Program, a critical initiative authorized by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). These awards will support eight groundbreaking projects designed to enhance grid resilience and reliability through innovative approaches. This effort will unlock an additional 13 GW of grid capacity through the use of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) technology and high-performance conductors (HPCs), strengthening our energy grid for generations to come. More U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) funding for grid capacity supporting distributed energy resources and the energy transition. Expected matching funds of $10 billion in private-sector and local government investments. MIT Research that was undertaken after the 2021 Texas winter storm, suggested that connecting ERCOT to the nation’s broader grid could have prevented some of the blackouts. "The Biden administration is putting $1.5 billion toward four electric power projects, including a connection to the Southeast for Texas’s isolated grid, it announced on Thursday. Central planning is important! Excellent to see FERC issue the landmark Order 1920 requiring the operators of the US grid to plan for 20 years of accelerated load growth and invest in transmission appropriately to connect new distributed resources. This implementation needs to progress in a hurry – and this Order promises to push a necessary buildout of infrastructure across regions to get our domestic energy resources onto the grid.    https://lnkd.in/eAydxM6R
