The officers responded to a call of a brown man stabbing someone. Was that subject actually ever arrested as he ultimately was the cause of the tragedy. The problems with this case were obviously seen at the bail proceedings in 2021 where the presiding judge deemed the case extremely weak. Sadly such information was subjected to a publication ban. The suspect information of a brown man stabbing someone never indicated a family man with his pregnant wife and baby. Those paremeters didn’t form grounds for such interaction in the first place other than perhaps warning Mr. Zameer and family to be careful. The next question would be why was a 55 year old officer with health conditions put in this position in the first place. No offence but he had more than paid his duties over the years and management should have placed him in a less dangerous position. The case regrettably resulted in the death of this officer. There is no doubt that anger, grief and some entitlement of reckoning led to a “tunnel vision” investigation in which common sense ignored the actual facts and circumstances. This was a homicide and there is no way it was simply left in the hands of the major crime officers who attended the call. There is no way notes were done separately without any input from each other and others. The actual forensics confirmed their evidence did not match the reality of what actually happened. It was simply a bad arrest process that conflicts with best practice. Everyone knows in a plain clothes capacity that you should always have a uniform presence when possible in making such arrests. You need to position vehicles properly to hinder escape. Time is always on the side of police. Sadly it was a dogs breakfast that had a horrible but avoidable outcome. Sadly the case really should have been reviewed from the onset with the bail judges concerns. Most definitely once the forensics came through. https://lnkd.in/eY5hdAEf

I put a question yesterday to my dear friend, Colin Witcher as to how victims of domestic abuse can be better protected from debts due to financial abuse from the abuser, eg debts accumulated under the victims name due to manipulation, coercion, violence and being forced. How will the criminal justice system and civil courts deal with such cases and ensure financial safeguard and holding the abuser accountable? I've just seen this and it concerns me that victims will not get the right advice and support, basically if they apply for this their technically made insolvent. Any thoughts? https://lnkd.in/edpSVaqP
