DHL Group Q1 24 out: all key group metrics broadly in line with expectations, even though y-o-y comps were tough still. DHL Supply Chain shines again. The others (ex-PeP)? Not so much. Air (+5.1%) and ocean (+6.6%) freight volumes grew in Q1 24 vs low base in Q1 23. Express holds up. Yet prolonged volume weakness drives lower network utilisation all along the network, the group notes. Good pandemic days gone, but profits materially higher than pre-Covid, with run-rate for Ebit at €1bn for DHL Global Forwarding. "EBIT protection plan" continues as the integrator points out B2B volumes did not "show any meaningful acceleration yet, as expected" while "B2C volumes in domestic markets continued to follow the structural e-commerce driven growth path". Global trade environment expected to improve in the second half of the year, in line with 2024 guidance assumptions. If you ever wondered what‘s the main revenue source & cost driver in our logistics business, this flow chart will provide the answers. Overall revenue streams are pretty evenly split across our five operating divisons, providing a solid diversification for DHL Group. 🚢 Revenues in DHL Global Forwarding & DHL Freight are more cyclical in nature, with spot freight rates fluctuating as well. This also holds true for the costs associated with this brokerage type of business through buying transport capacity across all transport modes (Air, Ocean, Road and Rail). 🚚 In contrast our operations in DHL Supply Chain rely on long-term contracts. Hence, significantly lower volatility with costs being maily driven by our workforce and expenses associated with leasing & operating warehouses. 🏬 ✈ 📦 ✉ Divisions delivering on the last-mile and powering our networks could be seen somewhere in between. 💻 With e-commerce penetration being an important top-line driver for DHL Express, DHL eCommerce and Post & Parcel Germany (Deutsche Post und DHL), expenses are driven by staff costs, energy consumption and depreciation for our multiple sorting hubs, aircraft and vehicles. In addition to the well balanced logistics portfolio the revenue split across verticals within each operating division further strenghtens the diversification of our revenue streams.

This holiday season, the worldwide package shipping industry witnessed unprecedented volumes, showcasing the robust growth and resilience of global supply chains. FedEx reported a staggering 400 million shipments, UPS delivered around 750 million packages, and DHL experienced a 10% increase, handling 1.5 billion parcels. Not to be outdone, the United States Postal Service (USPS) impressively managed over 850 million packages. The global #express #parcels market is expected to grow 9.2% in 2024 to €565,962 million (about US$629.443 million) this year, driven by #ecommerce growth, according to a report from Ti Insight. The top three companies in parcel delivery remain UPS, FedEx and DHL.

DHL Group got off to a solid start to the new fiscal year in 2024. As expected, there was no significant upturn in the global economy in the first quarter of 2024. Despite these conditions, the Group generated #revenue of US$21.9 billion (Q1 2023: US$21.5 billion).
