The Radar Cross Section (RCS) modeling in HFSS involves creating and solving a model to compute RCS. The process includes drawing the model geometry, creating an open region with Perfectly Matched Layer (PML) boundaries, adding excitation, setting up mesh operations, specifying solution settings, validating the design setup, running HFSS simulations, and creating 2D X-Y plots. The RCS model typically consists of a perfect electrical conductor (PEC) target, such as a cube, surrounded by an open region with PML boundaries to absorb outgoing waves. The excitation for this model is an incident plane wave, and the setup aims to keep the solution time short while illustrating the basic principles of setting up RCS problems and demonstrating post-processing for RCS information. For designs with Plane Incident Waves, the bistatic RCS (where the transmitter and receiver are in different locations) can be calculated. RCS is measured in meters squared and is represented by the ratio of the scattered E-field to the incident E-field. For SBR+ simulations, an Incident Plane Wave is required to compute RCS, and the phase reference for the incident plane wave can be set in the Incident Wave panel. A really nice introduction to Large Eddy Simulation in turbulence modeling.

🚗 Good to see that the driving pattern I have nowadays to and from work can easily be simulated using Simcenter STAR-CCM+. Stages in Simcenter STAR-CCM+ is a way to include multiple physics setups in the same simulation, you are able to employ different physics settings in the stages you decide to use. 💡 This can be highly useful in many cases. For example when trying to automate a vehicle thermal management (VTM) simulation. In particular the thermal soak simulation shown here (obviously) include both solids and fluids that have wildly different time scales for the dominating physics in those domains. So staging in this case with steady-state and transient alternatively can make a lot of sense and help with automating the setup.
