Team Spotlight Monday! We are so lucky to have Chad Haney, Senior Development Consultant, part of our team. He brings an immense amount of experience to the firm and we are so thankful to work with him. As a consultant, Chad primarily works on Capital Campaigns for The Salvation Army, Rescue Missions, and Christian Schools. Chad says the project he has been most proud of is The Salvation Army Buffalo 'Hope On Main' campaign. Chad noted this campaign has been a huge undertaking for the organization, and has consisted of multiple phases including a new shelter, affordable housing, and a community center. Chad is so proud of their team and how this campaign is coming along. When asked who inspires him, Chad said he is inspired by "the many stories of God, from the stories of people overcoming major challenges, to the stories of people doing small things that can have huge impact. I like to look for that kind of inspiration all around me." Outside of work, you can find Chad working in music! Chad also serves as the music director at his church and a music director with a local musical theatre company. And finally, Chad's dream bucket list destination is Paris! Thank you Chad for all the ways you contribute to our team and the clients you serve each day.

At Gallagher, we believe that a connected team is at the foundation of our success. Friends help us be our best work and at home. Friendship isn’t a matter of luck though; it’s a product of deliberate action. So what are some ways we can build stronger connections in the workplace? 1. Assume that people appreciate you. If we want to connect with the people around us at work, we need to move away from the part of ourselves that is apprehensive or fearful, and turn towards the part of ourselves that wants to build meaningful relationships. 2. Initiate informal conversations. Outside formal meetings and work-related discussions, informal conversations build relationships on a more personal level. Initiating conversations can begin by identifying common interests or experiences shared, which could range from hobbies or professional interests like industry news or recent projects. 3. Try asking open-ended questions. Instead of asking “Did you have a good weekend”, try asking something like “What did you enjoy doing this weekend?”. This encourages people to share more about themselves and create meaningful conversations. 4. Listen actively. Remembering and referencing topics or interests discussed in previous conversations shows attentiveness and genuine interest. If a teammate mentioned a hobby they enjoyed, like hiking, follow up with a question about their recent hiking adventures the next time you chat.

I am about to join a Board of Directors for a cause I'm really passionate about, and I want to talk about why I'm able to do that and why it matters. One of the requirements for almost any award that's out there is service, and don't get me wrong. Service is amazing! It's really important for people to give back. It's also really important to remember that there are a lot of folks, specifically folks who may be impacted by the service work, who cannot serve on a board or volunteer. They will always be excluded in recognition efforts that don't take the privilege it takes to serve into account and proactively address it. I can serve on a board because: * I am safe to express opinions online and in person without fear of harm because of what I look like and where I live * My children are older and I have a support system in place that enables me to spend time in the evenings doing non-child and home care tasks * I do not have to work in the evenings at a second job and my job has predictable hours * I have housing, transportation, and resources * I do not have limitations on mobility, hearing, or speaking * Many of the meetings will be conducted via Zoom, which makes it even more accessible to join There were years when I looked at other folks in the community who had young kids at the same time I did, who had demanding jobs, and still did these things and I blamed myself for not trying hard enough, or not being smart enough to balance thing to do the same. And what I didn't understand is how much of that came down to resources. If I had more money, I could have provided the same. Money may not buy happiness (though I don't agree with this), but we can agree it buys time. It provides choice. I am fascinated by leadership, and what people think it looks like, and who gets to participate. I'm not the only one thinking about this and certainly not the most eloquent, but I think it's important to reflect when we have these opportunities to step into roles that influence others. I recognize that it's both an honor and a deep privilege to serve, and I am thrilled to connect with others who feel the same.

#4 – Motivational Mondays – When you go to your favorite sporting event (football, basketball, soccer, etc.), what do you do? We cheer, applaud and yell at the top of our lungs for the team we support, despite these athletes get paid millions of dollars to entertain us, and we don’t know them personally. But how do we greet colleagues who we work with daily upon their arrival to work – if we are being honest, usually not much. How many of you still have a note of “Congratulations” or “Thanks” from a previous boss, colleague, or organization you worked for previously – I know I do! There are few if any more basic needs than to be noticed, recognized, and appreciated for our efforts. Personal congratulations rank at the top of the most powerful non-financial motivators identified by employees. Without celebration, or at least appreciation, hard work can often feel thankless, and it’s hard to maintain motivation and commitment while feeling underappreciated. So this week, take time to connect with a colleague, recognize at least one person for something special, or spend social time whether virtually or in-person bringing joy and connection to your relationship to build that spirit of community and appreciation for the value they bring to your company, your team, or your success. And make sure you tag the person in your comments, so they see your appreciation of them.

Success isn’t a solo journey—it’s deeply rooted in the community around us. While it’s essential to celebrate our own victories, it's equally important to uplift and recognize the achievements of those around us—whether they’re clients, family, friends, or colleagues. Our personal and professional success is often tied to the connections we nurture, and by celebrating the wins of others, we foster a culture of encouragement and collaboration. When we lift each other up, we not only strengthen our relationships but also create a ripple effect that inspires more success. We build trust, camaraderie, and a support system that empowers everyone to thrive. That’s why it’s so critical to embrace a mindset of celebration for both ourselves and the community around us. So today, I encourage you to take a moment to recognize someone in your network who has achieved something great. Let’s fill the comments with stories of success—whether it’s a recent promotion, a milestone achieved, or a personal victory. Share their story, celebrate their win, and let’s continue to build a culture of shared growth and support. Who’s someone you want to celebrate today? Let’s lift each other up.
