This year we’ve been able to ensure 80%+ turnout on average for our events. This is much higher than your typical sales or marketing event. How do we do it? Invitees are always thinking about a few things: 1. What am I getting out of attending? 2. Is this worth my time? 3. What are they going to sell me? 4. Do I need what they're selling me? Oftentimes attendance rate goes down because invitees are bombarded with the same types of events from multiple vendors. There's nothing novel in another sporting event or restaurant outing. Aside from engaging attendees in a unique experience, they need to know what exactly they’re signing up for. That’s where RSVP pages come in. We’ve been able to drive attendance by simply just telling people what’s in store for the evening. Once they see it’s a unique event, the agenda for the night and the custom garment they'll be receiving, it boosts attendance. This video breaks down the cost of running the event. Spoiler alert: it's around $175 per person and counting, as expenses keep going up. Most event organizers have upsells, but I don’t have anything to sell at the event. This is a pure passion project to bring people together and celebrate a great milestone. 💜 So, there you go! Time will tell if it's a smart or silly move...... 😁 P.S. I filmed the video yesterday, but since then, we upgraded the food menu, so the food cost is now $27,600 instead of $20,180. However, thanks to my diligent partner Angela York, she did some digging and discovered a website related to the event. But here’s the catch: when I checked the site's events page, I noticed two dates listed—July and August. Our event? Nowhere in sight! 🗓️ Additionally, while I appreciated the food choices displayed, they might not even be what’s offered at our dinner. Here’s my tip for anyone organizing an event: ALWAYS keep your website updated! Even if you're not taking registrations online, having the right information ensures attendees know they’re in the right place. I’m assuming this is linked to the advisor hosting our event, but it certainly doesn’t clarify that. Let’s see how this unfolds! I’m starting to look at conferences for the year, and one caught my eye. The #SEO conference brightonSEO (San Diego) currently costs $320 for 2-day access, including networking events & afterparties. Most comparable conferences cost 3x that. Brighton’s doing something awesome I think all conferences should consider: Skipping the meal. I’ve had awful food and I’ve had decent food at conferences - but honestly, even if the food was awesome, I still just want a smoothie for breakfast and Chipotle for lunch 🤦♀️🌯 I’d rather sync up with folks I met at the event for a more casual lunch out. Or sometimes, I might want to go out solo and take a quick break. And regarding ticket prices, I’d obviously rather pay $300 than $1200 if all I have to give up is a water-logged catered sandwich. How much more affordable could conferences be if they skipped the food? And for event organizers: how much higher could your margins be? Idk, food for thought (yes, pun intended)
