Thank you, Jeremy Markiz for sharing this article. And thank you James Klein with McSweeney's. Great article! And so true. Here's my observation from the perspective of 30 years of #notforprofit experience: Most #nonprofits do good work. Some do great work. And most struggle to clearly articulate what they do in specific, precise terms because doing so limits their own perception of their work. And the expansive mind and passionate heart struggle to set such limits. It's one reason why decisions take more time to make in nonprofits. And it's why satisficing becomes normalized. Nonprofits - in my strong opinion - have a manifest obligation to be absolutely clear about their CORE FOCUS. They must define their PURPOSE, CAUSE, or PASSION, AND the NICHE in which they pursue this CORE FOCUS. Articulating what change will be brought about by pursuing this Core Focus, over time, becomes the north star that activates donor support.
Most Jewish organizations fall into this trap. "The point is, our organization is uniquely passionate and purpose-driven, with a profound commitment to making the world a better place. What more do you need to know?" https://lnkd.in/eTyDh-ir

We took notes for you! Our April 30, 2024 meeting, The Pros and Cons of Fundraising Events, ICFAD invited Advancement Officers and their Deans to participate in an online discussion about best practices related to fundraising events – from those with a long history to those being considered. Each participant was invited to facilitate discussion and share their screen with examples as desired. The more of us who participate in this collegial collaboration, the more we are all able to learn from each other! Here are the bullet points that Diane shared: https://lnkd.in/dK8ZBF_F

Great work supporting research and collaboration! I’ve been asking orgs to rethink “demand reduction” or at least take a pause until you hear from men and boys. Why? - We still have so much to learn and if we want to end demand, we have to know what demand really is. Also… - Male survivors need platforms of their own! Male voices in this field are far too often combed in with all of our experiences. - Learning from men and boys through ethical research and collaborative efforts like this conference will help us all. Our true heroes may have also been hurt: - We grow because we allow ourselves to be vulnerable. Males can be victims too, our true heroes have their own stories and backgrounds. They are driven by personal (not financial!) reasons for showing up. - We do not yet know how to best support survivors, the male experience and perspectives on growth mindset after trauma will shed light on new approaches for ALL of us. Thank you Elizabeth for supporting such important partners and work!
I'm proud to say that I've been working on a pro-bono project for two years alongside 20 other leading professionals. After months of planning and development, the agenda is finally out - and it's awesome! If you haven't heard about the first International Conference on Violence against Men and Boys, we invite you to visit our event site for detailed information including conference objectives, topics, speakers, and more. This virtual event is the first of its kind, welcoming speakers from across the world who have volunteered to share their expertise, research, stories, and solutions in addressing and preventing violence against men and boys. Join us for a virtual event designed to educate, challenge, and equip communities to take action. Two days with 60+ speakers, 2 keynotes, 5 plenaries, and 28 breakouts means this is the place to be August 12-13th! www.conferencevamb.com $149 Help us spread the word by resharing this to your networks!

Significantly reduce the financial burden of temporarily unused spaces for commercial landlords and businesses with excess space
Stealth changes on Empty rates rule changes from 01 Apr 2024.... Look out for our forthcoming short video on the little known changes announced by Jeremy Hunt's team on budget day. Our number 1 prediction by our Jan 24 panel event was pretty spot-on. We are already seeing the signs that some agents are burying their heads in the sand and underplaying the net impact on landlords and from this change in England. The net saving is dropping by a quarter which cements the case that ethical empty rates mitigation, by helping the charity sector, is the last best way and carries the favour of political and public sentiment. See our Jan 24 highlights and other videos to get a taster of the "what's changing this month in England's empty rates arena?"
