This year, World Immunization Week celebrates 50 years of the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) which was established by WHO member states at the World Health Assembly in 1974. I am proud to have contributed to this tremendous collaboration with colleagues and partners to conduct the most comprehensive modeling analysis of historical impact to date (stay tuned for publication on the Lancet). A few key highlights: 🌍 The global immunization efforts have saved an estimated 154 million lives, 6 lives every minute of every year, over the last 50 years. 🌎 Global infant mortality has declined substantially since 1974. Vaccination has accounted for 40% of that decline. 🌏 A child today is at least 40 percent more likely to survive to their next birthday than a hypothetical scenario of no vaccination. Increased survival probability is observed even well into late adulthood. Our task is not complete... until we have everyone, everywhere, at every age fully benefit from vaccines to improve their health and well-being! #HumanlyPossible #VaccinesWork #WorldImmunizationWeek

Celebrating 50 Years of Life-Saving Immunization A groundbreaking study published by The Lancet reveals a staggering truth: over the past half-century, global immunization efforts have saved an estimated 154 million lives – that's six lives rescued every minute! Led by the World Health Organization (WHO), this study underscores the unparalleled impact of vaccines in safeguarding the health and well-being of communities worldwide. From the eradication of smallpox to the brink of polio eradication, vaccines have been instrumental in shaping a healthier, more resilient world. Yet, amidst these triumphs, challenges remain. The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted routine immunization efforts, leaving 67 million children vulnerable to vaccine-preventable diseases. Now, more than ever, we must increase our efforts to protect and extend the gains of immunization to every corner of the globe. Join me in honouring the remarkable achievements of global immunization efforts and advocating for a world where vaccines are accessible to all. Together, we can make a difference. 💪💉 #VaccinesWork #GlobalHealth #ImmunizationImpact https://lnkd.in/e5HfpsHp.

Did you know? The past 50 years of immunization efforts have resulted in saving an estimated 154 million lives, equivalent to 6 lives every minute! 💉 The World Health Organization has extensively studied the impact of these efforts, highlighting the crucial role vaccines play in global health. But the impact goes beyond just numbers. Immunization is the single greatest contribution to ensuring healthy lives, especially for infants. The study, soon to be published in The Lancet, underscores the critical role vaccines play in preventing diseases like measles, reducing infant mortality by 40% globally. 🌍 At Coolfinity, we're committed to supporting these life-saving initiatives. Our medical refrigerators play a vital role in preserving vaccines, ensuring they reach everyone who needs them, even in remote areas with unreliable power grids. 💡 Join us in celebrating this monumental achievement and reaffirming our commitment to public health during World Immunization Week, April 24–30, 2024. Together, let's continue to make the impossible possible! 💪 #Coolfinity #WHO #publichealth #healthcare #CoolfinityCares #Immunization #VaccinesWork https://lnkd.in/eH7VZMzQ

154 million lives saved: a powerful testament to the impact of global immunization efforts. This statistic from the World Health Organization highlights the incredible progress made in protecting children from preventable diseases (take measles vaccination alone - it has been a game-changer, reducing infant mortality by a staggering 60%). Vaccines are a powerful tool for safeguarding public health, and continued investment in immunization programs is essential to ensure indiduals of all ages (from infants to older adults) have access to these life-saving interventions. https://lnkd.in/eFF_-sPk

Immunization in Ethiopia Immunization is vital in Ethiopia's public health strategy, protecting communities from infectious diseases. Integrating immunization with broader health services, like maternal and child health, improves healthcare access by offering multiple services in one visit, optimizing resource use, and promoting comprehensive health education. Yet, Ethiopia faces hurdles. Geographic barriers in remote areas hinder vaccine delivery. Vaccine hesitancy fueled by misinformation poses a challenge, requiring tailored education campaigns. Weak health infrastructure, especially in rural regions, and inadequate cold chain management further complicate immunization efforts. Additionally, data management issues impede accurate program evaluation. To overcome these challenges, Ethiopia can: 1. Launch tailored community outreach and education campaigns to combat vaccine hesitancy. 2. Implement mobile vaccination clinics to reach remote communities. 3. Strengthen healthcare infrastructure and workforce capacity, especially in rural areas. 4. Explore innovative cold chain solutions to ensure vaccine efficacy. 5. Upgrade data management systems for accurate monitoring and evaluation. As Ethiopia prepares to observe Immunization Week, addressing these challenges and implementing targeted interventions, can strengthen the immunization efforts and achieve universal vaccine coverage, ensuring a healthier future for all its citizens.

This #WorldImmunizationWeek celebrates the legacy of the Essential Programme on Immunization (EPI) which has saved an estimated 154M lives – 6 lives a minute – over the past 50 years. The progress our world has made against vaccine-preventable diseases is remarkable. Today, children under 10 are 40% more likely to survive to their next birthday compared with children 50 years ago – all because of global efforts to make vaccines more accessible in every country in the world. But with disease outbreaks, climate change, and other global threats presenting new challenges to vaccine delivery, our hard-won progress is in jeopardy. Vaccines remain one of the best investments we can make to stop outbreaks in their tracks and safeguard the futures of children everywhere. With greater commitments to investing in immunization, ending vaccine-preventable disease is #HumanlyPossible. https://lnkd.in/gAVNcRuw

Investing in routine #immunizations for people of all ages who need them are an important pillar of #GlobalHealthSecurity. The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) shares this perspective on why vaccines are critical to advancing #GlobalHealth. Preventing disease outbreaks and preparing for and responding to pandemics means ensuring that vaccines reach everyone. Some highlights from this publication include: 📢Preventing Outbreaks: Routine immunizations not only save lives but also halt disease outbreaks by building robust infrastructure for vaccine distribution. 📢Pandemic Preparedness: The #COVID19 pandemic underscored the need to vaccinate people of all ages swiftly. We need inclusive immunization strategies to respond effectively to future health crises. 📢Funding for Impact: Gavi, in partnership with the Government of France and the African Union , seeks $9 billion to enhance vaccine access in low-income countries, crucial for closing global immunization gaps. 📢US Commitment: The US pledged $1.58 billion over the next five years to Gavi, signaling its commitment to global health security through comprehensive vaccine coverage across all age groups. 📢Moving Forward: Strengthening vaccine delivery beyond childhood is key. By supporting local vaccine production and advocating for universal immunization, we protect communities and promote economic stability. We should seize this moment to build resilient #HealthSystems that protect everyone, from children to the elderly, against preventable diseases. Together, we can ensure that immunization serves as a lifelong safeguard for health and prosperity: https://ow.ly/ZHcf50SJw6G
