𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐮𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞: 𝐁𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬’ 𝐣𝐚𝐜𝐤-𝐮𝐩 𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 ⚒️ Offshore installation vessel Boreas is reaching for the sky now that its 4 legs, each 123 metres in length, have been installed. These giant legs allow the vessel to be jacked up and work in waters up to 70 metres deep. As a result, it can operate stably, without being impacted by the waves. 🌊 The gigantic offshore installation vessel is capable of running on methanol and is purpose-built for the transport and installation of the next generation of 20 MW offshore wind turbines, with a height comparable to the Eiffel Tower. Concurrent with the completion of the works on the legs, the vessel’s technical installations are being commissioned to make the vessel ready for jacking, crane, and sea trials. 𝐌𝐚𝐣𝐨𝐫 𝐮𝐩𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐕𝐚𝐧 𝐎𝐨𝐫𝐝’𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐲-𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐥 𝐒𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐧! Van Oord’s heavy-lift installation vessel Svanen will get a major upgrade. The most eye-catching improvement, the extension of the gantry crane by 25 metres, readies the Svanen to handle the next generation of monopile foundations for offshore wind projects and makes it one of the largest heavy-lift installation vessels worldwide. 🏋️♂️ The extension, weighing 1200 tonnes, will be constructed by Holland Shipyards Group and installed using a 200 metres high Mammoet crane. 𝗩𝗮𝗻 𝗢𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗮𝗶𝘄𝗮𝗻 Van Oord has been awarded two new offshore wind projects to accelerate the energy transition in Poland and Taiwan: Baltic Power and Greater Changhua 2b and 4. Once operational, the two offshore wind farms will deliver renewable energy to approximately 2.5 million households. 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 Located in the Polish Exclusive Economic Zone of the Baltic Sea, the Baltic Power project represents Poland's very first offshore wind farm. With 76 wind turbines boasting a total capacity of 1.14 GW, it will supply renewable energy to over 1.5 million Polish homes. To install the monopile foundations, Van Oord will deploy its heavy-lift installation vessel Svanen, a familiar face in the Baltic Sea. Svanen has proven its suitability on a large number of projects in the region, including Baltic 2, Arkona, Danish Kriegers Flak and Baltic Eagle. The work is scheduled to commence in 2024 and expected to be completed in the summer of 2025. 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗵𝘂𝗮 𝟮𝗯 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝟰 Like the Baltic Sea, with its shallow waters and strong winds, Taiwan also has an ideal environment for developing offshore wind energy. The Greater Changhua 2b and 4 wind farms have a total capacity of 920 MW, supplying renewable energy to approximately 1 million Taiwanese households per year. Cable-laying vessel Nexus will transport and install three export cables with a total length of approximately 175 kilometres and LNG-powered hopper dredger Vox Apolonia will pre-excavate cable joint pits down to the necessary burial depth. 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝 ✅ Van Oord has completed the installation of 62 jacket foundations at the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm. It is the first wind farm in France with jacket foundations. Once operational, the 496MW wind farm will generate enough clean energy for 835,000 inhabitants. 👏🏼 Ivar Daemen, Project Director at Van Oord: ‘After executing a variety of projects in France, Van Oord reached a huge milestone by completing our very first highly complex offshore wind project here. 𝐁𝐢𝐠 𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐬: 𝐁𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 💪 During the WindEurope exhibition in Copenhagen a joint venture between RWE and Northland Power Inc. signed a preferred supplier agreement with Van Oord for the transport and installation of 104 foundations for the 1.6 GW Nordseecluster wind project in Germany. It will be the first project for Van Oord’s brand new offshore installation vessel Boreas, which is currently being built and will be the largest of its kind once operational. 1 down, 49 to go 💪 Van Oord's heavy lift installation vessel Svanen installed the first monopile at the Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm. The Svanen has installed more than 700 foundations throughout Europe and the vast majority of monopiles in the Baltic Sea. This exciting project will provide clean energy to 475,000 households and reduce CO2 emissions by nearly 1 million tonnes annually. In addition to the transport and installation of the wind turbine foundations, Van Oord is responsible for the supply, transport and installation of approximately 70 kilometres of inter-array cables.
