🚨Out now - Wind energy data for Europe: Autumn 2024 🆕📊WindEurope’s newest data report reveals that #Europe built 6.4 GW of new wind farms in the first half of the year. Germany built the most with 1.7 GW, followed by France 1.2 GW and Spain 876 MW. Which brings Europe to 278 GW of #windpower capacity. This autumn update outlines the latest data for #windenergy our expectations for the rest of the decade. Other findings reveals that turbine orders increased by 11% from 2023 and auction volumes are strong with 19.7 GW of new capacity awarded. But challenges are holding back progress: grid bottlenecks, delays in permitting, and difficulties in securing big investments. What needs to happen next? 1. Grid expansion: New connections and grid updates must be fast-tracked to keep up with the growing capacity. 2. Permitting: While some countries like Germany are making progress, others need to catch up and fully implement the new EU rules. 3. Ports: Investments in infrastructure are essential to support the increase in offshore wind projects. Get the full report 👉 https://lnkd.in/emJhkjDf

🇩🇪 Germany acts to ensure level playing field and data security in wind energy. In a new five-point Action Plan, the German Government acknowledges that there is no level-playing field between European and non-European wind turbine suppliers - and urges the EU to do something about it. 💻🔌The German Government also commits to applying robust cyber and data security laws to its wind turbines to ensure the highest security standards. 💬 “Well done to the German Government for acting to ensure a level playing field between Europe’s wind energy supply chain and manufacturers from outside of Europe. There is no place in Europe for unfairly subsidised prices or financing terms. Well done to Germany too for acting on the crucial issue of data security. There are hundreds of sensors on a modern wind turbine. Whoever puts them on the components has priceless information and the power to control the functioning of those components and the turbine.” said WindEurope CEO Giles Dickson. 🔗 Read our press release here: https://lnkd.in/eQbgfNZZ 🔗 Read the German 5-point Action Plan here: https://lnkd.in/e9z5pZvd

🔊 Europe needs an Energy Storage Action Plan At its second annual event, the Energy Storage Coalition today urged the European Commission to adopt an “Energy Storage Action Plan”. Europe wants electrify its economy. Energy storage is a key enabler for that. 📈 Today the EU has 220 GW of wind energy. By 2030 it wants to have 425 GW, and 1,300 GW by 2050. Experts suggest that the flexibility requirements in Europe’s energy system will more than double by 2030. How can we integrate these additional generation capacities into the EU energy system? 🔋#Storage alongside the expansion and optimisation of electricity #grids is the central piece to the puzzle here. The EU must put in place the regulatory tools to allow for the widespread adaptation of energy storage. The Energy Storage Action Plan should contain: 1️⃣ Incentives for energy storage investments 2️⃣ Improved permitting and grid connection rules for storage units 3️⃣ A changed framework for network charges and levies 4️⃣ Dedicated auctions for energy storage capacity 5️⃣ Monitoring of storage growth in the National Energy and Climate Plans The Energy Storage Coalition is an initiative of WindEurope, SolarPower Europe and EASE - The European Association for Storage of Energy and Breakthrough Energy .

👋 Meet Kevin O Donovan at Statkraft! This month we sat down with Statkraft's SVP for Wind and Solar Kevin O'Donovan to discuss their companies activities and achievements. Statkraft is the largest wind operator in the Nordics. They built the world’s first grid stabilisation project using synchronous compensators. The Norwegian company is operating more than 100 onshore wind farms in Europe and South America, with a total installed capacity of 3.2 GW! 🖇 Find the full interview in the comment section below. [ PRESS RELEASE ] Today, we join with 8 other industry associations to release the findings of a study to investigate the environmental impacts of processing glass fibre reinforced composite waste through #cement #coprocessing. Cefic UP/VE Sector Group, CEMBUREAU , Epoxy Europe, #EuCIA, European Alliance SMC • BMC, European Boating Industry, Glass Fibre Europe, TECH-FAB Europe, and WindEurope commissioned SGS to prepare a life cycle assessment #LCA report exploring the environmental impacts of treating end-of-life #composites by co-processing in a cement facility. 🔷 This independent, peer-reviewed LCA report confirms the positive environmental impact of this EoL solution for glass fibre reinforced thermoset composites which are used in various applications, including the automotive, construction, wind and recreational boating sectors. 🔷 The report reveals that each ton of EoL composite waste treated in a cement facility saves up to 1 ton of CO2 compared to traditional waste incineration methods. 🔷 With the publication of this report, we call on decision-makers to recognise cement co-processing as #recycling process for its mineral fraction. This would be highly beneficial, accelerating the adoption of this existing solution to process EoL composites and fostering the development of a sustainable waste collection system for EoL composites. Read our press release here: https://lnkd.in/eEKUGWWV ℹ The LCA report is available on request by contacting EuCIA: contact@eucia.eu #compositematerials #sustainability #circularity #EoL #netzero #associations #policy

🌊 How is offshore wind supporting the EU's climate and energy targets? Last week Malgosia Bartosik WindEurope's Deputy CEO took part in the Ocean Week co-organised by WWF European Policy Office and BirdLife International at the European Parliament. The discussion focused on how offshore wind infrastructure should be done in harmony with other blue economy sectors. And in support of biodiversity and the seas. It’s great that WWF is backing offshore wind for its role in reducing fossil fuels and protecting the maritime environment. 🗺️ Maritime Spatial Planning is key— balancing the needs of all sectors and ensuring coexistence with nature is crucial for sustainable development. 📝 Non-price award criteria are crucial too — Member States should make full use of them. With the example of the Netherlands' success in prioritising environment and biodiversity. “Collaboration and Innovation are key words here. The offshore industry has great examples of not only reducing its impact on the marine ecosystem, but also creating positive effect and restoring biodiversity around wind farms. We should take these best practices and implement where suitable. Exchanging and learning from each other at government and industry level will benefit everyone.” said Malgosia Bartosik. #EUOceanWeek
