📢 New #Publication Alert! 📢 Excited to share our ( Under the guidance of Md.Salman Sohel ) latest study examining the risky health behaviors and HIV/STI susceptibility among irregular Bangladeshi migrants worldwide. Conducted through qualitative research methods, our findings shed light on the challenges faced by undocumented migrants, including hazardous living conditions, risky employment, and limited access to healthcare. This study underscores the urgent need for targeted interventions and support systems for this vulnerable population. #ASLM2023 Day 2 This was a very long yet rewarding day. We wrapped up after 20:30. The main theme I followed was along #ContinuousQualityImprovement, #CommunityBasedTesting and #SelfSufficiency. These topics were great, it reiterated what we know to be true: 1) community engagement & involvement is critical in Health programme and implementation. At mothers2mothers, our mission is "Health Care for Families Who Need It Most, Delivered by Women Who Know Them Best." But what does this actually mean? 🌍 We work in sub-Saharan Africa, in under-resourced health settings and in marginalised, sometimes rural, communities. These communities have a high burden of HIV and other related, preventable diseases, and the people living there face barriers to care such as stigma, lack of awareness, and lack of resources. 👭🏾 We bridge this gap by training and employing local women living with HIV as community health workers, known as Mentor Mothers, who support other women and their families to be, and stay, healthy. 🏥 🏠 Mentor Mothers work both at health facilities and door-to-door in their communities, delivering health services, education, and support—but their role goes beyond health care. They are advisors, educators, and trusted members of their communities, using their shared experience to lift up and inspire their peers to take action that improves their and their families' health and well-being. 🙌 Since 2001, we have employed nearly 12,000 Mentor Mothers, who together have reached over 15 million people with life-changing health services and education.

📣📣📣📣📣📣 Breaking news for the scientific community: For every 100 women, 4 women thought that HIV could be transmitted by witchcraft or supernatural means We included > 15000 Senegalese women from the Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) in our study. The records were pooled from the recent published data of Senegal in DHS at 2017 (ie. no recent surveys were done after 2017 to track the increase or decrease of that belief). In the serene environment of Chongwe town, I participated and facilitated in a training to build the capacity of adolescent peer educators from Monze and Katete in Self Care for HIV and Sexual and Reproductive Health including family planning services. Self-care interventions offer a strategy to improve universal health coverage, reach people in humanitarian situations, and improve health and well-being. Self-care interventions encompass tools that support self-care and actions that improve the care of oneself. Self-care interventions include evidence-based, high-quality medicines, devices, diagnostics and/or digital interventions that can be provided fully or partially outside formal health services and can be used with or without the direct supervision of health and care workers. Self-care actions include practices, habits, and lifestyle choices. In addition, in times of major disruptions to the normal functioning of national health systems, caused by health emergencies such as cholera outbreaks as was the case recently in Zambia or the ongoing el nino induced drought, self-care interventions can provide an important alternative to the usual health facility- or health and care worker-based services. #Selfcare #HIV #GBV #SRH

In an effort to strengthen health information systems, the World Health Organisation Regional Office for Africa is developing a Data Hub, and they’ve enlisted us at Fjelltopp to deliver it! If you haven’t seen already, we’ve assisted in creating health data hubs for a lot of projects and we’re excited to help deliver this impactful project. The WHO AFRO Data Hub will be an integrated data system that aims to harmonise data drawn from systems and platforms across the 47 countries in the African region, such as data sets on malaria, HIV, chronic diseases, maternal and child health, sexual reproductive health, diseases affecting women, and other health-related data. We know that these data hubs help organisations conduct deeper analysis to take evidence-based decisions that positively impact health across these countries.
